A message from the Principal
Greetings from Dr. Pimpleton
Dear Mariner Students, Staff, and Families,
Happy New Year!
I hope the winter break has been good to you and that you have had the opportunity to rest and reconnect with the things and people you love. I want to thank you all for the relatively warm welcome I have received to Mariner. The last four months, I have had the great fortune of having many conversations with students, staff, and families that have helped me to learn a bit about where this school is, what it has been in the past, and our collective hopes of where we’d like to eventually be in the future.
I believe great schools are built on three pillars - A Safe and Nurturing School Culture; Outstanding Teaching and Learning; and Equitable Access to Opportunities. To some degree, each pillar is conditioned on the one previous. Outstanding teaching and learning doesn’t happen in an environment that is not safe and nurturing, and equitable access to opportunities does not happen without outstanding teaching and learning taking place. For that cause as we head into 2024 we will be intensifying our work around establishing and sustaining a safe and nurturing school culture at Mariner. This work will continue to be rooted in the schoolwide values we opened the school year focusing on:
- Relationships – We take care of each other.
- Integrity – We are accountable for reducing and repairing harm
- Scholarship – We make choices focused on learning.
- Equity – We make room for and celebrate our differences.
Over the course of the month of January we will be rolling out our safety compact - which is intended to be a sort of agreement between students, staff, and families, as to how we can work together to ensure that school is a safe and nurturing place for everyone. I will be holding meetings with each grade level followed by a community town hall for families to learn about the compact and to offer feedback before we move to implement it in February.
In February, the staff will be focusing on teaching our school wide expectations, ensuring that our systems for acknowledging students who are meeting expectations are implemented with fidelity, and developing interventions for students who continue to struggle to meet expectations.
More to come soon, but for now please mark your calendar for Tuesday January 30th at 7:00 pm which will be our first community town hall over zoom. The theme for the January meeting will be safety. We will have Spanish and Russian interpretation available and this will be an opportunity both for you to hear what the school is working on and to share any safety related concerns you have with us as well. Moving forward we hope to have monthly town halls over zoom the last Tuesday of the month with a different focus for each month.
Thank you and again Happy New Year!
Marcus Pimpleton

Attendance
Marauder families,
If your student has a planned early dismissal please call the attendance line or send a
note with the student in the morning. They will receive an early release pass and will be allowed to leave class at their designated time. If you give a note to your student, that is the most helpful.
If you come in to the main office and the student is at class difficult to reach by phone or at lunch we may not be able to get a hold of your student. It is most convenient for you and the office when a notice is planned ahead.
Please keep in mind Mariner has over 2,000 students and only two attendance workers. If you call and we do not answer please leave a message and we will enter in your student's absence. You can also contact attendance via parent square.
We are here to help you with questions or concerns about Attendance. Please reach out and remember Attendance matters. 😊
Thank you,
Ms. Tammie & Ms. Roberta

What our student leaders are up to
December was a fun month and a great way to end 2023! Leadership helped to organize Mariner’s annual Giving Wishes. Giving Wishes is a program in which clubs and classes can “adopt” local families within the community by providing holiday gifts that they otherwise would not be able to afford. Club members and classes shop for a list of gifts, then those gifts are organized and wrapped by our Leadership students. Giving Wishes embodies the Mariner value of Family, and Mariner Leadership will hope to continue this heartwarming tradition for many years to come. Shoutout to our amazing counselor, Mrs. Centeno, for organizing this event! We are proud to be part of it.
