National Science Foundation Game Maker Awards
The NSF Game Maker Awards commemorates the 75th anniversary of the U.S. National Science Foundation by engaging students in grades K-12 in a video game design competition.
This initiative aims to make STEM subjects exciting and accessible, encouraging students to imagine life in the year 2100 and the role science and technology will play in shaping the future.
Participants will create video games based on the theme "Life in 2100," focusing on NSF-supported research areas such as sustainable ecosystems, futuristic cities, medical technology and more. The competition seeks to foster innovative thinking, creativity and a deep understanding of STEM concepts among students.
The deadline to submit is Jan. 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. EST.
Essex Skypark Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Aviation Program
The Essex Skypark Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (ESSTEM) Aviation Program provides pilot training to young adults using a combination of classroom didactic and flight simulation programs.
We are a 501.C.3 non-profit organization located in the Fixed Based Operations (FBO) building on the Essex Skypark Airfield, 1401 Diffendall Road, Essex MD 21221.
The training is provided to all young adults at no cost.
The program also serves those that may have had some flight training or have held an FAA Flight Certification in the past and wish to get back into flying and need some refresher training, commonly referred to as “Rusty Pilot Refresher” training.

Maryland State Police Internship Program is a non-paid mentorship initiative that provides an introductory opportunity to students interested in learning about the administrative and operational functions of our agency. It helps give students direction on what career path they may want to pursue both in the civilian and sworn field.
This program is designed to meet both the academic and career objectives of students while providing useful administrative and operational support services to the Maryland State Police. The goals of the Student Intern Program are as follows:
- To provide students the opportunity to become familiar with police operations and better understand, through direct experience and training, the complexities of the criminal justice system.
- To foster students' interest in law enforcement careers.
- To assist students interested in pursuing a law enforcement career with the Maryland State Police or other law enforcement agencies prepare for the police officer application process.
- To enable high school, college and graduate school students to earn course credits and gain valuable career-related experience through meaningful and appropriate volunteer work.
- To offer high school students the opportunity to earn community service credits toward graduation.

What will I learn?
If you are selected you will attend 5 days of training where you will learn about Gray & Son, and what is expected of you as an entry level construction worker.

SENIORS! If you are interested in applying to the union electrical Registered Apprenticeship Training Program that starts in the Fall 2024, you must APPLY now!
The JATC24 is accepting applications now through the end of March. They will review your application, and invite you to take a placement test of reading and math (now scheduling these in May). If you pass it, you will then be invited to interview. Please work with Ms. Brennan if you are interested! There is supplemental information on the Schoology Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship Group and Intro to Apprenticeship Course.

The union understands that you are not yet graduated, and may not have all of the items below in the “Eligibility Requirements” until this summer. Even if you do not complete the Interim Credentials (IC), you are still eligible to apply! If you have the IC certification, you will bring that to the interview, and they will consider you for second year apprenticeship. Their hands-on boot camp for seniors with no work experience should be scheduled for July.
Eligibility Requirements at the time of late summer: Must be 18 years old, posess a valid driver's license, high school diploma or GED, official HS transcripts, receive a 4 or higher on the aptitude test.

The UA Sprinkler Fitters Local 669 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) conducts a five year apprenticeship program in all or part of 48 states in the U.S. for Sprinkler Fitters who are piping mechanics specializing in fire protection. We also have excellent insurance, pension and education plans. The apprentice’s entry-level rate is based on a percentage of the Journeyman rate of $36.95 per hour and may increase every six months if qualified. Previous experience in construction or related college or military experience may enhance the entry-level wage.
