Important Information from our PTA

Hi Wims families! The Wilson Wims library is looking for donations to give students more choice at our Makerspace (hands on) area. If you have any legos, dominos, magnatiles, marble run, or other items that your family is done using, please consider donating to our library. If you'd like to donate books, we have lists on Donors Choose (doubling donations on October 3rd!!) and on Amazon. Please reach out to our media specialist, Mrs. Emily Hall, if you have donations or questions. Emily_R_Martinez@mcpsmd.org

The school must be notified any day your child will be absent. You may call the school office at 240-406-1670 or email the classroom teacher and the Attendance secretary Mrs. Norton; christine_e_norton@mcpsmd.org

When reporting the absence please include the following:

• Child’s first and last name

• Grade Level

• Teacher’s name

• The reason for the absence

If we do not receive a call from a parent, the absence or tardiness will be considered unexcused. A written explanation of each absence is required from the parent/guardian within three days of the student’s return to school (email is acceptable)

Greetings, Wildcats!

It was nice to see the sunshine yesterday after a week of rain - the very rain that was responsible for the postponement of Movie Night. But after some doing, un-doing, and re-doing the past few days, the PTA is pleased to hold Movie Night this Friday, October 4th! Please join us between 6-7pm for our showing of Inside Out 2 on the Wims lawn. The movie will begin at dark (7-7:15) but spirit wear will be out for sale and concessions will be open.

Tuesday is our first PTA Meeting of the year. The meeting will be held in person at 6:30pm in the Media Center. Free childcare is available in the APR through Global. Childcare is for potty-trained children only and no pre-registration is required. To log in from Zoom, please use this link or enter Meeting ID: 896 3994 8217; Passcode: 117945. While we work hard to keep meetings to one hour, the first one always runs a bit long.

Congratulations to our WEEK ONE Fun Run Winners! The following classrooms’ combined donations were enough to earn them some extra recess time: Mrs. Wendland (K), Mrs. Fort (1st), Mrs. Benco (2nd), Mrs. Holman (3rd), Mrs. Oakes (4th), and Mr. Walker (5th). And congratulations to kindergarten for raising the most funds during Week One, earning them a special movie & popcorn treat later this school year (they narrowly edged out 3rd Grade by just $25)!

We are only at 28% of our goal of $20,000. Please continue to share the Fun Run widely so we can offer all the enrichment activities we have planned for the school year. And don’t forget: the classroom with the highest percentage of registered students by the 11th will receive their very own “squishy Wimsy” (ask anyone in Mrs. Benco’s class last year - these were a hit)!

Grab your lawn chairs & fuzzy blankets and get ready for Movie Night on the Lawn! Join us for a showing of Inside Out 2 on the giant, inflatable screen. “Doors” open at 6pm and spirit wear will be available until the movie starts. The concession stand, offering fresh popcorn, pizza, hot dogs and more, will be open from 6pm to the end of the movie (cash and credit card accepted). The movie will start at dark (7:15-7:30).

Join your fellow MCPS Clarksburg Cluster schools for our second annual Cluster Night at Coyote Canyon by signing up to register Wilson Wims during a spirited parade around the football field prior to the game. We will meet at 5:30 outside the CHS Stadium and the parade will begin at 6pm. This is a great opportunity to show off your Wims Spirit Wear!

On your mark, get set, GO! The Wildcat Fun Run is scheduled for Friday, October 11th during the school day. Visit www.mybooster.com to register your Wildcats, start them off with a donation, then share with your family, friends, and neighbors and ask them to support our school by sponsoring your student! Fun Run is a wonderful day of camaraderie, fun, and fitness and the PTA relies on this event to fund our operating budget for the year and keep our events free to our Wims community. Please register today and help us meet our $20,000 goal!

Calling all non-5th grade families: The PTA is looking for a CO-CHAIR for 5th Grade Promotion. 5th Grade Promotion is a special event for our outgoing Wildcats, and we need a team to help make this an unforgettable evening as these students head off to Middle School. This is what we refer to as our “pay it forward” event, as when your student enters the 5th grade, the hope is that there are families willing to make their night unforgettable, too. Promotion Night has a lot of moving parts and is the perfect event for team collaboration. Our chairs from last year are on hand and ready to guide you and volunteer that evening. Committee Chairs are fully supported by the PTA Board throughout the duration of these roles. Please contact us at pta@wwespta.org if interested!

Did you know that you can earn for our school simply by shopping at Harris Teeter? HT has donated over $32.8 million to Together in Education schools since 1998. By simply visiting the website & linking your Harris Teeter VIC card, a percentage of your purchase is automatically donated to Wims (TIE #2814)! Our school relies on these funds and we hope to increase participation! Visit the TIE website today to start earning for Wims. Returning Families: Please note VIC cards must be re-linked annually!
