A Message from Ms. Peterson
Hello MCP3 Families!
This week our scholars begin Theme 2: My Family and Friends! Be sure to check out more details about what they are learning in the section at the bottom of the Newsletter. During this theme, your scholar will be asked to complete a My Family Project at home with your help. They will then be asked to share their projects with their classmates. Be on the lookout for more information from your scholar's teacher in the near future about this fun project!
MCP3 appreciates all of your support during this first month of school as we are working hard to establish solid routines and procedures for our scholars. Thank you for talking with your scholar at the end of the day about their choices and about what they are learning. When scholars are praised at home for their good choices at school and talked to about their sad choices it reinforces the relationship between school and home. Scholars learn that teachers and parents are a team and have the same high expectations for behavior.
We know that scholars are going to have difficult moments from time to time and make bad choices. Making bad choices doesn't make the scholar a bad boy/girl. However, when we make bad choices we do have consequences for those choices and we have the opportunity to learn from our mistakes to do better in the future. At MCP3, consequences may include time off the carpet (away from the whole group), loss of a privilege (part of all of recess/Rauh Room/playing with a certain toy), or a "time out." Please refer to our handbook procedures under Child Guidance for more details. Our goal is to help scholars learn to make positive, safe choices so that all scholars in the classroom can learn. Just like the first line of our Declaration of Excellence, "Today is a new day..." we will always welcome your little scholar back with the belief in their abilities and with love.
With Love and Respect,
Ms. Peterson
PIcture Day is Monday 9/30
School Picture Day is Coming!
Picture day is Monday, September 30th. Scholars must wear their MCP3 uniform. Please have scholars here at school on time, K3 takes their pictures first in the schedule. Information regarding ordering pictures was sent home in your scholar's folder and emailed today.
Whole Body Listening
Scholars are working on using Whole Body Listening during carpet time. Scholars have their own squares to sit in so that they all have personal space and can respect the space of others. Whole Body Listening includes looking eyes, quiet mouths, listening ears, and calm bodies. (Criss cross, hands in lap) Check out these two awesome videos with your child at home to reinforce whole body listening.
Sesame Street: Furry Potter and the Goblet of Cookies
Sesame Street: The Biscotti Kid
Calming Strategies
Every morning during circle, the second step is "calm." This is an activity to disengage stress that offers adults and scholars an opportunity to actively calm themselves in order to have access to their prefrontal lobes and higher-order thinking. MCP3 scholars will learn five specific strategies this year....try practicing them with your child at home and encourage them to use them when they feel upset, frustrated, angry, or sad. The one they are learning now is called Balloon.
*Have children place their hands on their head and lock their fingers together. Have them breathe in deeply as they raise their hands over their head as if the air they are breathing in is filling up a balloon over their head. Have children sniff in more air and then sniff in more air one more time. Invite them to let the air out as they drop their hands back down to their head. Have them make a "pppbbbb" sound as the air empties from the pretend balloon. Repeat. Check out the Golden Eagles and their Balloon Breathing!!
The Big Slides are Open and they are SO AWESOME!!!
What are the scholars learning?
