Sacred Heart News
Friday 8th November
Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for coming along to the Parents’ Evenings this week. It was good for the teachers to catch up with regards to your child's progress to date this year. Thank you for your excellent input at home too. If you missed the opportunity to catch up with your child’s class teacher, please email and we will arrange an alternative time.
Christmas and Advent season
We have been preparing for the upcoming Christmas and Advent Season and most dates have now been finalised. Details of the various Nativities and Carol Services, Christmas lunches are listed in this newsletter but we will also ensure they are on the school calendar on the website. We have been finding it difficult to schedule our KS2 Carol Service whilst Sacred Heart Church is being repaired. St Mark’s Church, next door to school, have kindly let us use their church over the past two years but they now have bookings most evenings. We are hoping to use St Mark’s Church on 18th December at 4pm KS2 Carol Service and are awaiting confirmation. We will let you know as soon as this is confirmed.
The PTA have planned some wonderful activities for the children on the run up to Christmas and have produced a poster to support organisation. Thank you – that is very helpful.
We will be singing at Teddington Lights Up later in the month and outside Gail's Bakery another morning (Charity Fund raising event). We will let you know exact times in the near future.
Between the PTA and school, we will try to keep everyone as organised as possible.
Elleray Hall Christmas Lunch and Advent Charities
Sacred Heart Church and our school are helping with the organisation of the Christmas Lunch at Elleray Hall this year. It is for the elderly in the community who are on their own for Christmas. There are about 70 people to cater for this year. The church are looking for volunteers to help before or during the event. Year 5, as part of their Caritas Ambassador’s work, have taken on helping with elements of the project and will be asking the school community to help with an aspect of this; the rest they will organise in lessons. We will await their guidance on what they need help with.
We will be supporting a number of charities/Christmas initiatives this Advent. These include Elleray Hall Christmas Lunch, Shooting Star Trust and Cafod World Gifts. We will align this fundraising to the various special events happening at school during Advent.
Anti-Bullying Week and World Kindness Day
Next week is Anti-Bullying Week and the theme this year is ‘Choose Respect’. We are holding Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 12th November. Please come to school wearing your odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique! We have planned daily activities and discussions for all year groups across the week. World Kindness Day is on Wednesday 13th November so we thought we would mark this event with the children as well.
On Monday we will have a Remembrance Service in School. The children have already been reflecting on the meaning of Remembrance Day, writing poems, prayers and making displays on this theme around school. We have a special Poetry Workshop relating to this theme planned for next Friday which all children will attend over the course of the day.
School Development Plan
Please find a link to a Parent friendly version of the School Development Plan for the year ahead. These plans always reside on the school website. The staff and governors work on this together each year.
School Lunches
Please encourage your child to eat a hot lunch at school. Once they try the food on offer, they usually like it. The lunches are fresh and flavoursome. Everything is cooked from scratch with a salad bar and a range of healthy desserts on offer each day. Please try new foods at home with your children; this is helpful to develop the children’s palates. Eating the free meals provided at school equates to around a saving of £500 per family, per child.
Highlights of the Week
Reception have been exploring the magic of Diwali, creating colourful Rangoli designs with rice and glue.

Netball vs Twickenham Primary Academy
On Tuesday 5th November we played a Netball match against Twickenham Primary Academy. It was our first Netball match for some of us. We found it very excitable and enjoyable but hard work!
The match was at Sacred Heart and we felt that we played well but we did lose 4-2. We hope we do better next time! We still found it fun!

Social Media
Social Media
As you may know, Sacred Heart has been up and running on social media for a few months now. Our goal is to model a positive, safe use of social media, sharing moments of joy, achievement, and the many “little wins” that happen every day in our school community.
Please be assured that safeguarding is a priority: if your child does not have permission, their photo will not be posted. We do not use children’s names, to further protect children’s privacy. Please inform Miss Flowers if you wish to change permission arrangements.
If you aren't already, we’d love for you to follow us and see what your children are accomplishing. This space is here to celebrate our students and keep you connected to the vibrant life of our school. Thank you for your support in making Sacred Heart a joyful, safe, and supportive online community!

EasyFundraising
EasyFundraising – many more retailers now donating to schools all year around
As we approach Christmas and we are shopping for groceries and gifts, why not let the retailers give a little something extra to Sacred Heart School in the way of funds. These donations from retailers to school soon mount up and proceeds are used for the benefit of the children. Perhaps grandparents, aunts and uncles could also sign up to Sacred Heart School as well. Once linked up on a device, you will be prompted, when shopping, if that particular retailer is part of the EasyFundraising scheme and a click of button means they make a donation to school. Thank you for your help with this.

Changes to the Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) programme
Ahead of the new school year starting, we are writing to inform you of changes to the Volunteer Police
Cadets (VPC) programme, run by the Metropolitan Police Service.
The Met is committed to continuing to support the Cadet scheme, recognising how it contributes to
building trust with young people, supports recruitment and diversion, as well as having a positive
impact in communities through crime prevention and other police initiatives. There are currently 32
cadet groups across London and the scheme currently supports 4,100 cadets from the age of 8 to 18.
Changes to the scheme will see us retain all 32 groups, but instead our revised scheme will now run
for 13 to 17 year olds.
