Service Opportunity – Little Free Pantry Management
What is a Little Free Pantry?
It goes by the motto: Take What You Need. Give What You Can.
Little Free Pantries are weather and animal-proof structures that store food and other items for those in need. They are accessible 24/7 and located in neighborhoods, typically in front yards or by sidewalks.
The Nebraska Extension office on 8015 West Center Road is getting its own Little Free Pantry very soon. In partnership with the Nutrition Education Program, 4-H clubs and independent members are needed to help manage the pantry for one-month time frames. Sign your group or club up to take on a leadership role in service to the Omaha community. Check the pantry weekly for adequate food, remove any damaged or dated items, consider hosting a food drive and spend time learning more about food insecurity and healthy food access. Sign your club up here!
The Bellevue Do More Learn More 4-H Club installed a Little Free Pantry in July with support from Nebraska Extension’s Nutrition Education Program. The pantry is located at 1910 Avery Rd E, Bellevue, NE 68005. The club is seeing near daily use of the pantry by the community. You can follow along on Facebook here!
