Thanksgiving Lunch

We were happy to see so many families at our Thanksgiving Lunch today. We had about 500 people for lunch. Such a blessing for our school.

iReady Winter Diagnostic

Be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming iReady Winter Diagnostics. All students will test in the area of reading on Monday, December 2 and in math on Monday, December 9.

You can support your student(s) by:

*Ensuring their devices are at school those days and fully charged.

*Helping them to get a good night's rest before the test and a healthy breakfast in the morning.

*Giving them words of encouragement to take their time, read carefully, and do their best.

Coosa Running Club Wants Your Shoes

Are you looking to clean out those unwanted shoes this holiday season? Looking for a place to donate them? Look no further, the Coosa Running Club will take them all! For a 5th year, the Coosa Running Club is teaming up with Grounded Running to collect shoes for those in need. Students can bring in any type of shoes in any condition during the month of January. With your help, and the support of our community, we have raised over 5,000 pairs of shoes! There will be boxes in the front lobby in January for shoes to be placed.

Volunteers Needed

We need volunteers for our upcoming Passport Project Cultural Days on Tuesday, February 13 and Friday, March 14. Do you have a special connection or experience with one of the countries or cultures below? If so, we would love to have your volunteer to share your story!

A Message from, Briana, A 4th Grade Leader

Are you interested in playing chess? I would like to start a chess club that would meet one day a week (about an hour long) for approximately two times a month. The day of the week is TBD. The club would be for 4th and 5th graders. The amount of students in the club is based on the amount of student interested and the amount of adults willing to help. The school is willing to purchase the chess boards for our club thanks to the donations from our business partners. We have removed an event from The Calendar of Events that was sent home at the beginning of the year. We have cancelled our Annual Faculty and Staff Caroling Event due to a scheduling conflict.

Multilingual Learners Parent Event

🎉 Mark your calendars for a festive and fun-filled evening at the Multilingual Learners’ Holiday Event! Join us on December 11th, 2024, at 6:00 PM at the Robert Smalls Leadership Academy. This special gathering is open to all Multilanguage Learners from BCSD and promises something for everyone! Learn about the exciting updates to the ACCESS English Language Proficiency Test, snap a photo with Santa Claus himself, and cross your fingers for a chance to win amazing raffle prizes! Don’t miss out on the fun—we can’t wait to celebrate with you! 🎅🎁✨

Palmetto's Finest Award - Reminder

We want to share with our families that we applied for the Palmetto's Finest Award. At the elementary level, only 1-2 elementary schools are awarded this prestigious award yearly in the state of South Carolina. The process begins with an extensive application submission with the superintendent's approval. Independent readers evaluate applications and recommend semifinalist schools for initial site visits. Members of the SCASA Palmetto's Finest Awards Committee visit the schools. Coosa has been chosen for an initial site visit. The committee will conduct an unannounced school visit between the dates of December 3- December 13. From those visits, finalist schools are selected and notified. If we make it to the next phase, the awards committee members return for a second site visit. If parents and/community visitors are onsite during their visit, they plan to ask them questions about the school.
