Waunakee High School Proudly Presents "Alice by Heart"
On behalf of the High School Drama and Music Departments, we invite you to this year's spring musical production of Alice by Heart.
We are proud to be only the second school in our state to present this musical which premiered off Broadway in 2019. Alice (Ava Kietzman) and her childhood friend Alfred (Blake Beam) have loved Alice in Wonderland throughout their childhood. During WWII as teenagers, they wait out the blitz in the London Underground. Faced with Alfred's imminent passing from tuberculosis, Alice returns with him into wonderland, confronting the 6 stages of grief with the help of the Caterpillar (Maddie Foree, Sydney Ray and Ensemble), the Cheshire Cat (Josie Petroff), The Jabberwock (Mason Wagoner) The Duchess (Seth Trippie), and the Madhatter (Jonathan Rode), as well as feeling the rage of the court including the Queen of Hearts (Brianne Kieta), Queen of Diamonds (Kate Wilkinson), the Knaves and all of the wonderland inhabitants (Ensemble).
We are extremely proud of the sensitivity and maturity with which our cast, crew and pit have approached this work and are eager to share it with you all.
Shows are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm in the HS PAC. Tickets are $12 and are available at the door or online at waunakee.booktix.net
Warm Regards,
Colin Anderson, Rick Braun, Ryan Caloud, Anna Meffert and Molly Petroff
South Street Construction
Important Notice
We are notifying you that construction work will begin on South Street on Monday, May 6. This construction project will impact South Street near Heritage Elementary School and the area by Waunakee Neighborhood Connection (the old library).
The first portion of the work is utility related, and is being coordinated by Madison Gas & Electric (MGE). Village of Waunakee Public Works has been collaborating with the school district to minimize disruptions for our students, staff, and families. The work is taking place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to avoid arrival and dismissal times for Heritage Elementary School. We are aware that students in other buildings also walk/bike/drive to/from school along South Street.
We are asking for all students, staff, and families to be aware of this project, and to be extra cautious on South Street. The district crossing guards will remain in current locations during construction, and will continue to assist all students on South Street.
Please know that staff and student safety during this project is a high priority for all involved.
Community members are welcome to follow all Waunakee projects by visiting the Village of Waunakee website and Facebook page.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership.

✅ Featured Weekly New Book
"December 6, 1941: Best friends Frank and Stanley have it good. Their dads are Navy pilots stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, and the boys get a front-row view of the huge battleships and the sparkling water. Yes, World War II is raging in Europe and in Asia, but the US isn't involved in the war, and the boys are free to dream about becoming comic book creators. They've even invented a superhero of their own, in the style of Batman, Superman, Captain America, and other stars of the Golden Age of Comics. Maybe they'll even get their comic published someday. December 7th, 1941: Everything explodes. That morning, Frank and Stanley are aboard the battleship the USS Utah when Japanese planes zoom overhead and begin dropping bombs on the ships below. Chaos ensues as everyone scrambles to dive for safety. Frank and Stanley realize what's happening: Japan is attacking America! The war has come to them. As the boys fight to make their way home amidst the carnage, it's clear that everything has changed. Stanley's mother is Japanese American and he is suddenly facing a terrible prejudice that he's never known before--he's now seen as the "enemy," and Frank, who's white, cannot begin to understand what Stanley will now face. Can their friendship--and their dreams--survive this watershed moment in history?"--from the publisher

Seniors: Check Naviance Student
Each year, Waunakee Community High School requests all SENIORS to complete a mandatory graduation survey. This survey can be accessed and completed through Naviance Student. Details on this survey will be presented during Advisory on May 6 & 13, along with an email to seniors and parents/guardians. This survey allows the district to collect graduation statistics, record work-based and apprenticeship data, and ensures the Counseling Department is able to effectively support seniors in their post secondary transition. In addition, for those students attending a post secondary institution, the survey requests seniors indicate where they want their final transcript sent. Final transcripts will be sent to colleges/universities in mid to late June based on survey answers. Seniors should complete this mandatory survey no later than Friday, May 17, 2024. If you have any questions, please stop in the Counseling Office.

Rotary Exchange Host Families Needed
The Waunakee Rotary Club will be hosting a high school girl from Spain for the 2024-2025 school year. They are seeking families who would be willing to host this student for next school year. Rotary would like three families to share this responsibility so the student receives three different experiences during their stay, and it keeps the stay at any one home to about four months. If you are interested in being a host family, or want to discuss this opportunity and learn more, please contact Carol Bleifield from Waunakee Rotary at dfbleifield@yahoo.com. Thanks for considering.

Doing Different - Instructional Coaching Corner
What is coaching: It can look many ways. One of the most impactful ways is to examine a specific practice over time. Here is our official model, though we can amend it as necessary to be most useful. What coaching is not: Evaluative. Public. Magic. Concept of the week: Fisheye Syndrome. It has to do with which students monopolize our discussion time. It was in this Cult of Pedagogy podcast. Current Book Study: Proficiency-Based Learning Other books of the moment: The Choreography of Presenting, Disrupting the Teacher Opportunity Gap, Unlocking Leadership Mindtraps
Feel free to contact Michael Dreyer with any questions or to set up a coaching cycle.
Yearbook Storage Closest Pre-Sale
As the Tech Ed department prepares for a remodel this summer the Print Pub staff would like to invite you to a yearbook storage closet pre-sale. We will be selling our overstock books for a one time only low price of $10.00 per book for any yearbook in our storage room. You can see a live list of books available HERE. This would be a wonderful time to either start, build on or fill in gaps to your collection. Having a yearbook is a wonderful way to look back on the years spent here at WHS. Books can be purchased with either Cash or Check made out to WCSD. Please have your student stop in room 1405 and talk to Mr. Willauer to purchase a book. We plan on going live with this sale to the community in the next few weeks. Please help us give these books a home so we don't have to move them for our remodel.
