Principal Update to Families
November 2024
Thankful
Message From the Principal
Dear Hubbard Husky Families,
November is a month where we begin to be reflective and feel gratitude. I am so appreciative for the staff, all of our students and you, their families. Hubbard is truly a family!
Much appreciation to those of you who took the time to fill out the school survey as well as Panorama. Feedback both positive and negative are vital to our continued growth and reflective practice to ensure that we provide a learning environment where all students have equitable access to rigorous instruction and an education that addresses the whole child.
We are still awaiting the decision to continue utilizing Class Dojo! It has been difficult not having this communication tool. Please be sure to check your emails as well as reach out to your child's teacher via email for any concerns, questions or information you may need. We are also working daily to keep the school website updated. Please check out the website often for any important information and calendar of events (https://www.ccsoh.us/HubbardElementary).
With gratitude,
-Mrs. McGaughy

Reminders about Reading Improvement Plans:
K-3
These scores determine if your child is given a RIMP. The OST ELA promotion score for 2024-25 is 700. The scaled score for promotion is 50. 3rd grade students will be placed on a RIMP with OST Fall scores below 700 AND 50. The third graders just took the Reading Ohio State Test(OST) October 24-25. The results from that assessment will help us identify and prioritize skills to design lessons and interventions that address student's individual needs to make the necessary growth to meet their yearly goals. Third grade will take the Ohio State Reading test again in the spring as well as Mathematics.
Intermediate RIMP
Fourth Grade
All students, including students with disabilities, who are promoted will require a RIMP if the student:
Had a RIMP in grade 3 and did not score proficient (700 or higher) on Ohio’s State Test for grade 3 ELA
Did not meet the promotion score on Ohio’s State Test for grade 3 ELA but the student’s parent or guardian requested the student be promoted to grade 4. These same students must receive 90 minutes of daily reading instruction that includes intensive intervention
Fifth Grade
Any student, including students with disabilities, that had a RIMP in grade 4 and scored below 700 on Ohio’s state test for grade 4 English language arts must continue to have a RIMP.

Parent Teacher Conferences
November 6th and the 14th are the dates for our upcoming parent-teacher conferences. This is an important and necessary time for collaboration between teachers and parents so that students have the most successful school year. These conferences not only focus on academics but also their social emotional growth. We look forward to working with you to made sure that the plans made are done collaboratively with you so that we can meet each child’s unique needs. If you need to schedule an appointment please get in contact with your child's teacher!
Tips for Parent-Teacher Conferences:
- Write down any concerns or questions you have about your child’s academic progress, social skills or behavior. This helps to make sure you don’t forget any important topics you wish to discuss.
- Ask how you can support your child’s learning at home.
- Inquire not just about where your child may be struggling but also about their strengths. This helps to build a balanced picture of their progress.
- Ask teachers to share specific examples of your child’s work and behavior, as this can clarify where they excel and where they need more support.
- In addition to academics, inquire about your child’s relationships with peers, emotional well-being, and overall behavior in the classroom.
Enjoy a few pictures of the event.

Celebrate National Family Literacy Month in November
November 1 marked the beginning of National Family Literacy Month, a time dedicated to fostering a love for reading and learning within families. This initiative began in the early 1990s when alarming statistics revealed that millions of American workers lacked basic literacy skills. In response, Congress collaborated with the National Center for Families Learning to establish this important month. At Columbus City Schools (CCS), we recognize how essential literacy is to our students' overall development. We believe the partnership between district leaders, teachers, and families is crucial in supporting our students’ growth. CCS is dedicated to providing families with resources that enhance learning both at home and in the classroom.
As families embrace November, we encourage you to explore various opportunities to read together—whether it’s through our #TogetherWeReadCCS / OverviewLinks to an external site. book bundles or a selection from your local library.
