We are the PACK!
Smiley Thoughts
PACK Guardians and Students,
We have had a great week at Hubbard and have a lot of things coming up in the next few weeks. Please read the important items below and scroll down to see what is coming up in the near future!
8th grade scheduling - This week, our wonderful counselors met with 8th graders to discuss filling out their class choice sheets for their freshman year at Tyler Legacy High School. They all received a copy and we want to partner with you to understand the options! Please join us on Tuesday in the cafeteria at 5:30pm to gain a better understanding of these options.
Transfers - The Tyler ISD transfer window will open February 1st. The website provides all details regarding transfers. Just a reminder that ALL transfers must re-apply every year unless you have moved to the official Hubbard school zone. Response letters regarding your transfer application will be mailed out April 1st. Transfer applications should be turned in at the front office.
UIL - TODAY is the deadline for students to sign up for UIL. They sign up through their grade level CANVAS course.
Failure Meetings - This past week campus administration met with every student that failed one or more classes. We discussed the consequences of failing classes as well as the updated handbook policy regarding 8th grade recognition participation and failing classes, poor attendance, and DAEP placements. Please help us monitor your child's grades by setting up notifications within parent portal.
Cheer tryouts - Check the next newsletter for information regarding cheer tryouts and parent meeting.
Spinal Screenings - Nurse Olivares wanted me to share this letter explaining spinal screenings coming up in February. It is required for our 14 year male students and 12 year old female students. This will take place via the nurse during P.E./athletic periods.
-------------------------------------------------------------REPEATS--------------------------------------------------------------------
Leaving Early - If you are picking your child up early from school please do so by 3:15 p.m. We do not allow students to be checked out after 3:15 p.m. since this could hamper our dismissal procedures and ability to retrieve multiple students before the bell. The front office is closed between 3:15 and 3:45 p.m.

Fund Schools First
The Fund Schools First initiative has been organized by school districts—urban, suburban, and rural—to seek funding from the Texas Legislature to return districts to the same purchasing power as they had in 2019 when HB 3 was passed. With 90% of students attending public schools in Texas, our goal is for the Legislature to prioritize public school funding this upcoming session.

Band visit to Rice Elementary
I got some more photos of our band to share from their visit last week!
Earth's layers - 6th grade science
Mrs. Collins' class did a fun lab today (and Monday) to learn about the layers of the Earth.

Shoutout to the Tin Can Cafe students and staff for serving burrito bowls today!
Bible Club - Esther Anthony
Thank you Esther for stepping up at Bible Club today!
Early College High School
Is your student interested in gaining their high school diploma and associates degree at the same time? They can apply to Tyler ISD's Early College High School. Teachers and students from ECHS came to speak to our 8th graders this week in their College and Career Readiness Course.
PTA Teacher Treats
Thank you to everyone who stepped up and donated for this month's PTA teacher treat day! The staff enjoyed mixing up their own delicious chex mix!
Legacy High Dance
Basketball
Great job to our 7th grade A team for securing a win this week!
Band-aids
Lately we have had some students trying to bring back the "Nelly" look from the early 2000's. If your band-aids from your house are walking off mysteriously, they are probably trying to be worn at school! We are NOT allowing students to walk around with these on their faces.
--------------------NEXT week--------------------
Tuesday, January 21st - Attention 8th grade parents!
--------------------TWO weeks away--------------------
Mon/Wed - January 27/29th

Girl Power
We are excited to partner with the Junior League of Tyler to offer this awesome event again this year! 6th grade girls may register by turning their signed permissions slip into their counselor. All 6th grade girls will be given a paper form and an explanation of the event. We had a fantastic turnout last year and hope to have even more this year!
STOP the Bleed
Students and guardians, coming up soon, Nurse Olivares will be offering the official "STOP the Bleed" training for 7th/8th grade students during advisory class in the cafeteria. Students may sign up using this survey. The deadline to sign up is March 7th!
