14th Street School Field Notes

Over the past month, many students have participated in weekly afterschool programs: Book Club (grades 2-3), Lego Club (grades 1-2), and Read & Craft Club (grades K-1). It has been wonderful to observe the sense of community that develops when students learn and play together in mixed grade-level groups. We are very grateful to Mrs. Benner, Ms. Coltart, Mrs. Paradis, and Mrs. Smith for planning and facilitating these enrichment opportunities.

Every Friday we randomly select a prize winner (one per class) from among the students who received a Ram award that week for being a responsible worker, acting respectfully, having a mighty positive attitude, and/or staying safe. Selected students get to choose a small toy, bring in an item for Show and Tell, read to a class, help Mr. Deane, eat lunch with a friend, or (my personal favorite) eat lunch with me.

• We are continuing to work on improving the safety and efficiency of our morning arrival procedures. The area of the loop in front of the orange cones is reserved for buses. Please do not park there to drop off your children; doing so prevents the buses from unloading students until that area is vacated, which slows the entire process down. We also kindly request that cars respect the 5 mph speed limit and be mindful of walkers, bikers, and rollers when entering and exiting the loop.
• Students may enter the school beginning at 8:40 am and the school day starts promptly at 8:55 am. Students who will be eating breakfast at school should be dropped off as close to 8:40 am as possible so that they have enough time to eat before the bell rings.
