Patriot's Pointe
Greetings Patriot Families,
This week we will be discussing safety and security with our students at Sandy Creek. My administrative team, counselors, and I will be rotating through English classes to discuss our routine safety procedures, how and when to make a report, and the importance of safe and responsible social media use. We will also facilitate our lockdown drill this week as a standard part of our safety protocols. This is a good time for our students and staff to practice our procedures as it relates to lockdown drills.
This week many of our EOC courses will engage in the district-wide interim assessments that will provide us with a snapshot of how our students are doing. U.S. History, American Literature, and Algebra Concepts and Connections are all slated to take this assessment this week so please look for details from your child's teacher and let's support our students in doing their best on these important indicators.
Last week SCHS AFJROTC participated in our annual ceremony to remember the events of September 11, 2001. Our community event was well attended and members of the VFW, American Legion, retired and active duty military, and first responders were all on hand to support our cadets, orchestra, band, and chorus as they facilitated a moving ceremony to remember the lives that were lost on that day. Select members of our Orchestra performed on Saturday in the Ninth Georgia Honors Orchestra at Kennesaw State University. Congratulations to Graison Saba, Moc-Lan Hoang, Moses Morano, and Blake Davis on a job well done during their 2-day immersive college experience at KSU! Our football Alumni from the class of 2009, including our very own Coach Heard, were honored before our game on Friday night as they returned to their roots to celebrate the legacy of Sandy Creek Football. Additionally, we recognized awareness for Prostate Cancer and partnered with the Georgia Prostate Cancer Coalition to highlight this important initiative.
This week at The Creek we will celebrate Senior Night for both Volleyball and Softball! Please come out to support our athletes and honor our seniors who have given their time and dedication to superior academics and athletics at The Creek. Volleyball senior night will take place on Tuesday night and Softball senior night will be held on Thursday night. Our Varsity Football team will face Trinity Christian Academy this week on the road. We look forward to seeing your Patriot Pride at the game on Friday night!

Leadership program for young men
My name is Marcus Broadhead and I am the Dir. of Educational Activities for the Sigma Omicron Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, which serves Fayette and Coweta Counties. We provide a leadership program for young men and are about to begin programming for this fraternal year.
Over the past two years we have been working with young men from Fayette County High School and are opening up the opportunity to more high schools in the area. Our chapter brother Hon. Derrick Jackson has roots with Sandy Creek so it made sense for us to extend the opportunity to students you serve.
Our focus is on young men who have the potential but may not see it in themselves or possess the resources to live out their potential. Although we support students who may not be making positive choices, the program is not designed to "fix" them. I share this level of transparency with you because we want all participants to want to be in the program and see the benefit rather than a place where a parent may force them to go. We want there to be a mutual investment.

Digital Scoreboard Fund Raiser for SCHS
We have a rich tradition in athletics here at Sandy Creek with more than 10 State Championships in sports such as football, basketball, track, and volleyball.
Our scoreboard was built in 1991 and we are in need of a new board to match our dynamic and talented athletic teams. The vision at Sandy Creek High School is to provide students a competitive advantage in whatever endeavor they choose after high school. With your assistance we can help the students prepare for those endeavors while branding your business and supporting our community. Please view the information attached about the sponsorship and digital scoreboard.

Georgia Tech Women in Engineering
The Georgia Tech Women in Engineering Program is excited to announce that registration is open for our annual Engineering Career Conference (ECC) – our STEM outreach program for young women who are current junior and senior high school students!
ECC is designed to give high school girls knowledge and information about the eleven engineering disciplines offered at Georgia Tech to help them decide if they'd like to study engineering in college, and, if so, which type of engineering is best for them.
This year's ECC will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 8:30AM to 4:30PM in Georgia Tech’s Exhibition Hall.
Over the course of a day, prospective female students have the opportunity to hear directly from Georgia Tech's world-renowned faculty and current Tech students about the various engineering majors offered at GT. In addition, attendees have the chance to meet with a GT Admissions Counselor to find out about the admissions process and the academic requirements necessary to be successful in the engineering undergraduate programs.
The non-refundable registration fee for ECC is $40, which covers all materials as well as breakfast and lunch for all attendees of the program; need based scholarships are available and we encourage all students to apply.
The application link may be found here. There is also a QR code in the attached flyer so students! Applications will be open until September 15th.
If teachers are interested in bringing a group of students, students will need to register individually, and note the teacher’s name as their chaperone. We can only accommodate 1 group of 10 per school, with 1 teacher as a chaperone. Teachers ARE NOT able to register on student’s behalf.
Free College Essay Help with Notable Narratives!
About Notable Narratives:
NN is a 501 (c)(3) college essay service organization that provides completely free college essay editing services to first generation and/or low income (FGLI) high school seniors applying to college. We do this by pairing college applicants with FGLI college students, as having an advisor that comes from a similar background will allow students to feel more comfortable receiving help
Since our founding in August 2020:
Our 90 FGLI college advisors have assisted over 1,750 students from 102 unique countries and all 50 states.
1 in 4 students who filled out our annual survey were accepted into an Ivy League or Stanford University.
94% of our students were BIPOC, and 50% identified as both first-generation and low-income.
We encourage you to read more about our impact through our Impact Report, website, and Instagram. We are excited to help even more students this year!
Next Steps:
Attached is a Registration Form for you to share with your students. NN’s services are available to those who self-identify as low income and/or first generation; students do not need to identify as both to apply. I will also be sending this resource to the SCHS counselors.

Parent Square
The Campus Parent portal is your source for student and family records, including household and individual contact information, attendance, school-based fees, academic planning (high school), forms, and report cards. The Parent portal also provides access to the GaDOE SLDS Portal. Please set up the parent Infinite Campus account first. The same username will be shared with Schoology to set up your parent account in Schoology. Because each login reflects the person associated with the username, it is recommended that a separate account is created for each parent.
- Usernames can be comprised of letters, numbers, the underscore, and dash.
- Please refrain from creating a username that is all numbers, as that will interfere with student data here in our district.
- After completing the setup of your parent portal account, please allow 24 hours for your new account information to be sent to Schoology before attempting to log into your Schoology parent account.
