"Lead -- Grow -- Serve"
September 2024
Dear East Families and Guardians,
We hope this message finds you well. It's hard to believe that we are already a few weeks into the school year! As we settle into our routines, we wanted to take a moment to update you all on how things are going and share some important information.
1. Smooth Transition: We are pleased to report that students have adjusted well to their new classrooms and schedules. Our teachers are working hard to create a supportive and engaging environment, and we've been impressed by the enthusiasm and effort our students are showing.
2. Academic Progress: Students are beginning to take beginning of the year screeners in reading and math. Teachers and administrators will be closely monitoring their progress and provide additional support as needed to ensure each student's success.
3. School Events and Activities: Our calendar is filling up with exciting events, activities, and fundraisers. Please look at the calendar below for September events/activities/fundraisers. We will also keep the East Facebook page up to date and send things through Talking Points.
4. Feedback and Communication: We value your feedback and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Regular communication between home and school is key to a successful year, so please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or our administrative team.
5. Health and Safety: We continue to prioritize the health and safety of our students and staff. We will begin practicing drills, learning about health during Healthy Body's, Healthy Minds, and we encourage you all to talk about health and safety at home as well.
6. Drop Off/Pick Up/Transportation Change: Thank you all for being patient as we try and make our drop-off and pick-up line move faster. It's already getting so much better! Please look below for the Traffic Flow Map and Carpool Tips.
Thank you all for your ongoing support and partnership. We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to working together to provide a positive and enriching experience for all students.
Warm Regards,
Lauren Boone, RaKel Paul, and Cassie Solis

New to East
Tasha Martin, 2nd Grade Teacher
Tasha Martin has been with East Elementary for 4 years. For three years, she worked alongside our PreK teachers as a paraprofessional, but this year, she has joined our 2nd grade team. Mrs. Martin has a Associate's and Bachelor's degrees and is working on obtaining her Accredited Education Certification. When asked what drives Mrs. Martin as an educator, she said it is her passion for working with children and seeing them succeed. Tasha and her husband, Jeff, have been married for 22 years. They have 2 children, Morgun, 16 and Taryn, 9, who are active in Bobcat and Ladycat sports. In her spare time. Mrs. Martin and her family enjoy "glamping" and traveling. We are so excited for the contributions we know Mrs. Martin is going to make to the 2nd grade team!
MagdaLynn Paul, 2nd Grade Paraprofessional
MagdaLynn Paul is joining our East Family this year as a 2nd grade paraprofessional. MagdaLynn is currently enrolled at Kilgore College obtaining her Bachelor's Science degree in nursing. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family (our very own Mrs. Paul is her mom), three younger siblings, her 2 dogs, Paisley and Cricket, her bearded dragon named Norbert, and her hamster, Sprinkles. Any time you ask her how her day is going, she responds with "I love working with the kiddos!". We love hearing that because we love MagdaLynn being part of our staff.
Kirby Kelly, AB Paraprofessional
Kirby Kelly is working along our AB staff as a paraprofessional. Kirby is from Henderson and has a 12-year-old son named Lane. This is Kirby's 5th year working as a paraprofessional, and because of her love for students and learning, she is currently working on obtaining her teaching degree and coaching. When she is not busy studying for her degree, she loves to sing, watch sports, read, and fish or hunt.
We are so excited to have Kirby as part of our East Family. We know this will be a great year and cannot wait to see what she contributes to our AB Program.

What Does My Child Bring to School Every Day?
Please make sure and label ALL items with your child's name.
Carpool Info
East Elementary will use car rider pro for our pick up system. You will receive your new tag at Meet the Teacher or it will be sent home with your child on the first day of school. Please read the following FAQ carefully to answer any questions you may have. An order form for additional tags will be sent home with your child on the first day of school.
How does the system work?
CarRiderPro tags will work similarly to the paper hangtags issued in past years. Each car tag is associated with a student (not a car) in the CarRiderPro software. When the tag is recognized as the parent approaches the reader in the pickup line, a notification flashes to an inside monitor where students are waiting. To ensure the number is read, parents must have the tag hanging from the rear-view mirror before entering the pickup line in order for the reader to recognize the number.
Why did the District choose this change in pickup?
This automated system will not only expedite the pickup process, but will also keep students safer and more comfortable by allowing them to remain inside the building and out of the weather until their ride approaches the doors.
How reliable are the tags?
The system is designed and engineered to work in all weather situations and has been tested by multiple districts in the past with no reports of weather-related malfunction. Should internet connections be lost, the system can run on mobile data plans. In the event that the system is temporarily out of order, campuses can use hard copies of the registration and the physical numbers on tags to release students appropriately.
What does this mean for carpooling and ride-sharing?
When parents register their student in CarRiderPro, a space is available to add multiple names for ride-sharing. Parents can even specify the day of the week. For irregular schedules, parents can allow a ride-share driver to use their tag temporarily. They may also purchase additional tags for car-pool use.
Parents driving a carpool should hang all the students’ tags from the rear view mirror so that notifications for each child will be displayed inside. The system is sensitive enough to read multiple tags hanging in one location.
How will this impact daycare vans?
These vehicles are easily recognizable. Campuses will continue to have staff members monitoring the car rider line outside. When daycare and church vans approach, the campus will have those students called and send them out to load.
Will I have to buy the tags?
East will provide one tag per FAMILY (because each tag links to all children in the family) at no charge. If additional tags are desired, they will be sold at the district’s cost of $7.00.
How can I pick up without a tag?
Just as in prior years with paper tags, authorized adults or parents can pick up without a tag by parking and going inside the school office to sign their student out with a valid ID. Parents will not be able to enter the office for normal checkout until after 3:40 p.m. Additional tags can be purchased for $7.00.
What if I lose my tag?
In the event that a tag is lost, parents should contact the school office to have that tag number disabled and a new tag number issued. Replacement tags are available for $7s.00.
How will grandparents or other occasional pickups be handled?
As always, authorized adults who are listed in the student’s file for pick-up may park and go into the school office to pick up if they do not have a tag. Again, authorized adults must be listed in Skyward and have a valid ID.
Please contact the school at (903) 668-5990 ext 1601 for any questions related to CarRider Pro.
