Hello scientists, and welcome to 6th Grade! My name is Ms. Sagan, and I am thrilled to be your science teacher for our amazing year of exploring Earth and Space Science.
For our first week, we will be focusing on classroom norms to ensure that all students feel confident navigating their way through the class in both physical and virtual spaces. We will also complete a fun first lab - The Gab Lab - which is designed to help students get to know their classmates!
As we approach the first day of school, all I need you to do is make sure you have all your science supplies ready by Tuesday, September 3rd (the day after Labor Day).
Your supplies include:

one notebook
5 tab dividers
pencils/pens/colored pencils
pencil pouch/handheld pencil sharpener
tissues

Welcome to middle school! My name is Ms. Daboh, and I am super excited for this upcoming school year! By September 3, you will need the following supplies:

I am super excited to begin my 2nd year here at Deal! I look forward to interacting with our students to inspire them with new literature, help them with research, and to explore STEM and making activities. I also look forward to speaking with families at our Community night where I will be giving away free books! I will also have a free book cart a few days next week during dismissal. I will be seeing all of the students during the month of September to check out books! Please help us keep them in great condition and return them when they are finished. I will be sending out regular notices for overdue books. It is also never too late to return anything you may have found at home over the summer! Meet the Team - When We Were in 6th Grade!
Mr. Kirschenbaum
Mr. Kirschenbaum is in his 17th year at Deal. He has a BS from Ohio University, a JD from The Catholic University of America, and a MEd from The George Washington University.
Ms. Wesselhoft
Ms. Wesselhoft is in her tenth year at Deal. Ms. Wesselhoft worked in Prince William County Public Schools prior to coming to D.C. Ms. Wesselhoft graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s in History.
Mx. Gomez (not 6th grade picture!)
Mx. Gomez is new to Deal Middle School and in her 3rd year teaching. Before joining Deal, she worked at McKinley Middle School here in D.C., New Horizons Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is a graduate of City Year D.C. with a focus in math. She is a graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio with degrees in Mexican American Studies and Sociology.
Ms. Sagan, Science
Ms. Sagan is in her 3rd year at Deal. She has a B.S. in Environmental Science from American University and is a graduate of AmeriCorps City Year here in Washington, DC. Prior to her work in DCPS, Ms. Sagan worked at the Greenwich Country Day School in Connecticut.
Ms. Patsalos, MLL
Ms. Patsalos is in her 8th year at Deal. Before becoming a teacher, she was a television producer at NBC, CBS and MSNBC. She has a BA from Colgate University, an MS from Columbia Journalism School and an MA-TESOL from American University.
Ms. Daboh, MLL
Ms. Daboh is starting her first year at Deal Middle School. Prior to working at Deal, Ms. Daboh taught middle school in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Daboh has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Spanish, and a Master of Arts in Teaching.
