Student Council is hosting a Toy Drive from December 9-20.

Those who are willing and able, please grab a snowflake from the main office! The OEMS Toy Drive will take place December 9-20. Each snowflake will signify a different item and price range. Please read the snowflake carefully before you select it. White snowflakes range from $10-$20, Light Blue ranges from $20-$30, and Dark Blue ranges $30+. Each snowflake will have a paper attached to it with specific directions on how to present and return the snowflake + present once it's purchased. 7th grade parents and supporters are invited to help organize the 7th Grade Winter Fest. Help our planning chair and student council plan a fun night for our 7th grade students. Time commitment is a few planning meetings (probably virtual) and possibly running some errands prior to helping the night of the event on 2/7. Last week, Mr. Konietzko (6th/7th Grade Math Teacher) was awarded the 148th Operations Group Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) of the Year! He won for his rank category and will be interviewing this Saturday for a chance to win at the Wing level (the entire 148th Fighter Wing a.k.a. Duluth Air National Guard base). Members who are nominated/win the award typically show excellence in their specific job, contributions to the Wing, and display professionalism both in their military and civilian lives. Some of the accomplishments he had this past year that led to his winning this award were:

- Deployed to Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan this past summer. Coordinated flight schedules between Duluth's F-16s, Kadena's F-15s, and supporting tanker aircraft. Started a flag flying program there to boost morale as well.

- Coined by the entire Air National Guard's Command Chief Master Sergeant (the highest enlisted rank in the Air National Guard) at the MN National Guard's Junior and Senior Enlisted Leadership Conference.

- Was part of numerous F-16 flyovers including one at a UMD football game.

- Coordinated with many different buildings within the Wing of incoming aircraft (both our own and visiting)

- Marched in the Christmas City of the North Parade to represent the 148th Fighter Wing.

- Volunteered time at career fairs (one at East this past spring) to discuss potential career options.

- Coached football and track and also volunteered time with other extracurriculars within the school.

We are so proud to call him an Ordean East Husky. Congratulations Mr. K, and best of luck to you on Saturday. We are rooting for you!

OEMS Swim Team is Starting Soon!

• The Ordean East Swim Team is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
• Practice starts in January and is on Mondays and Thursdays after school. The season ends in early March.
• This year, due to special circumstances, there is no participation fee for anyone.
• There is lots of information about the upcoming season, which starts in January, on the Swim Team Website.
