8/23 Newsletter
St. Petronille Catholic School
A Note from Mr. Schmidt
Week 1 down! It was a great week to have students back in the building to meet their teachers, start their academic classes, and reunite with their classmates! We look forward to an even better week 2!
One notable event next week is our first all-school mass at 9:30 AM on Tuesday! This is a wonderful opportunity to join together as a community in worship for the first time in 2024-25. Parents and guests are welcome and we ask that you come through the PLC doors to check in between 9:15 and 9:30 AM to attend mass. We must transition into the church at 9:30, so please plan on signing in at the school office if you arrive after the start of mass. As always, all exterior doors to the church will be locked prior to the students' arrival until after they leave for their safety.
Also, our hot lunch program begins next week! Please double check your orders placed prior to the Thursday deadline and plan to send a lunch with your child any days when they do not have hot lunch. If you want to make future orders, please see the link to hot lunch ordering under the "Important Links" section of every newsletter.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or if there is any way I can better support your family.
God bless,
Eric Schmidt
Principal

FIRST Robotics Team!
St. Pets FIRST Robotics team is BACK and we're ready for a fantastic ocean-themed season! See this season’s teaser video is here. If you are not familiar with FIRST Lego League you can watch an overview here. We are looking for team members to be registered no later than August 28th with our first practices on September 10th.
There are a couple of changes to the team this year that should be noted:
- Robotics Team will only be offered to 6th-8th graders (2nd-5th will be invited to coding club in the Fall)
- Robotics Team will run from September 10th to mid-January 2025
- Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 pm on the stage in the PLC ( no more moving tables, woohoo! ). Competitions will be in December and January.
- There will be a $99 registration fee to cover expenses
- We will be fielding multiple 6-10 person teams building multiple robots so more kids will have more "hands on keyboard/lego" time
- Students must upload an application below on "Why I want to be on the St Pets Robotics Team". Expectations are a standard paragraph of roughly 100-200 words. Our goal is to measure genuine interest from the students.
- Students will need to be approved to join the team. There are a limited number of spots this year.
- We are also looking for any parent volunteers that are programming/lego/hardware oriented or that are innovation/presentation oriented that want to help out the team!
If your student is interested please fill out this form ASAP and reach out to Coach J Schwan (j@theschwans.io) with any questions!
The Charger Classic is 9/13!
Calling all golfers, serious and social! Tee times are still available for the Charger Classic golf outing on Friday, 9/13,24 at the Village Links. No need to find a foursome, we’ll pair you with other golfers in your child’s grade!
Not a golfer, kick off the school year and join us for the 19th Hole Social and Dinner starting at 6:00pm.
Busy that day? Help us reach our fundraising goal and purchase one of the 10 remaining tee-hole sponsorships! CLICK HERE to register or sponsor this event to benefit the school’s tuition assistance program and the students who no longer have access to the Empower IL scholarships.
