What are technology learning stations?
Reasons Learning Stations are Effective
1. Engaging for Students
2. Student- Centered
3. Collaboration between Students
4. "Chunking" of Information by dividing into smaller sections
5. Kinesthetic Learning
6. Easy to integrate technology!
7. Differentiated
8. Quick and Easy to Access
9. Perfect for building relationships between students and between students and teachers
10. You do not have to re-invent the wheel and can use many activities you already have
What are the types of stations you can include?
Blended learning stations are a great way to cover a large amount of information in the short time we have to cover certain topics. Technology is not always needed and not encouraged for every station that students go through.
Should include 4-8 stations depending on how much time each station needs and the class periods you would like to take.
What can the stations include:
1. Foldables
2. Graphic Organizers like Tree Maps, Circle Maps, and Flow Charts
3. Virtual Field Trips
4. Web Quests
5. Office Mix Teaching Video
6. Self-Paced NearPod lesson
7. Flashcards
8. Teacher review station
9. Catch-Up Station
10. Online Quiz using Quizizz or Quizalize
11.Avid Strategies: Cornell Notes, Concept Maps, Jigsaw Activity, Etc...
12. SIOP Strategies: 4 corner vocabulary, Readings using insert method, Pre-tests, Word Sorts, and concept ladders
13. Games
14. Mini-Labs for Science
15. Problem Solving for Math
16. Manipulatives
17. Task Cards- Free Examples
Keep in mind you can use leveled stations as well for differentiation for different learners where there are easier and harder tasks.
Stations Example:
Get Hands-On – Draw a well labelled diagram (ex. of either the plant or an animal cell, listing 5 organelles found in the cell drawn)
Research – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must research a specific question/issue surrounding the topic.
Explain yourself – students write down an opinion to a question in paragraph
Catch-Up Station - finish work from previous stations
Reading Station- students read a short passage from an article, etc. which directly connects the classroom content to a real life application.
Practice Questions- answer 5 multiple choice questions with written explanation of why they chose that answer
Learn from the expert – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must watch a short video clip and answer the associated questions. They may stop, rewind and restart as often as they like during the time frame. Can use Office Mix or Nearpod
Question Maker Station– Students must create 2 multiple-choice questions, 2 true/false questions and 1 short answer question. Students must also supply the answers.

Examples of Learning Stations
You can create guided Project Based Learning projects to guide students in their learning and teach topics at the same time.
- The Ecology Project was done in a span over 3 weeks. Students introduced and taught about the topic in class and they would have the rest of the class period to collaborate with their groups research and create their projects. Guided worksheets and a group folder was kept as well to keep all the hand written work in one place. At the end, the folder and presentations were graded. Group members graded each other as well.
- The Human Body Systems Project was done as a teaching assignment for all body systems. The students had to teach the class about each system and create their own worksheets and presentations.
ThingLink is a great resource for PBL projects as well to organize all the sites and information needed for students.
Your librarians are a great resource for project based learning projects!
