Principal Update
Greetings FitzGerald Families!
Mrs. Santillo enjoyed traveling to many classrooms over the course of this week to share in each classroom's weekly Community Circle time. Mrs. Santillo read the book I Promise, by LeBron James. Through the wonderful message that is shared by the author throughout the story, Mrs. Santillo discussed ways in which we can all continue to work together as one community to make every day a great one for ourselves and others. Circle discussions included dialogue on our core values, with a special emphasis on positive attitude and respect (which were the core values of September and October), as well as determination, integrity, empathy, and individuality. Mrs. Santillo also reminded students about how much our brain loves to learn new things, take on challenges, and make mistakes, because each of these things helps our brain to grow stronger and smarter. By working together to motivate each other, support each other, include each other, and help each other, we can make the FitzGerald School the best place for everyone to learn and grow every day! We all have a special place in the FitzGerald community and our school is an amazing place because of all of the ways our entire community works together (students, staff, and families) towards the common goal of striving to provide the best elementary educational experience for every student. Any classes that did not have a circle with Mrs. Santillo this week will be having one next week instead.
Students Are Doing a Great Job Practicing Safety at FitzGerald!
This week, students reviewed bus safety with Officer John! The students did well practicing how to get off of the bus if an emergency arises. We had four school buses here that day so that every class had a chance to practice with their teacher, Officer John, and the bus drivers that joined. Thank you to Officer John for organizing this session for us! We have one last safety drill practice that we will complete in the next few weeks, which is walking to our secondary location and reviewing what we do should we need to travel there for any reason. This will be an announced drill for the students and we will have them bring their warm jackets/hats/gloves items with them for the practice time.
Walking Wednesday- This week, 86% of students in attendance participated in the Walking Wednesday event! Thank you to all staff and parent volunteers for helping outside. We had four classes earn the Golden Shoe this week: Mrs. Scruggs, Ms. DeFranco, Mrs. O'Brien, and Mrs. Foley! We have one more Walking Wednesday next week. We can't wait to see if we can increase participation even more!
Reminder for next week:
Wednesday October 23rd- Early Release Day, Dismissal at 1:00pm, lunch will be served
Have a wonderful weekend! We'll see everyone on Monday!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Santillo, Principal- jennifersantillo@walthampublicschools.org
