Sieden Prairie May Newsletter
Closing out the School Year Strong!
Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
As we began May, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo here at Sieden Prairie. Cinco de Mayo marks the anniversary of the 1862 victory by Mexican troops over invading French forces at the Battle of Puebla. The triumph over the better equipped and more numerous French troops was an enormous emotional boost for the Mexican soldiers led by Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza.
To celebrate the holiday, students participated in a glow stick dance party, limbo, and hula hoop challenge.

April Wrap-Up
Solar Eclipse
It's always best when students can experience science directly, so Sieden Prairie students took advantage of the almost total Solar Eclipse!
Students monitored the movement of the moon in front of the sun and recorded their observations in order to discuss what they have learned when they returned to class with their teacher. The next time that our students will experience an Eclipse will be twenty years from now! Our Sieden Prairie Scholars will hopefully remember this event for the rest of their lives.
Arbor Day
Why are they wearing pajamas? It was the same day as our Pajama Party! Congratulations to our Scholars.
Pajama Party
All April, our Sieden Prairie Mustangs worked hard to show that they lived the three PBIS truths:
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Be Safe
Each time they showed that they were exhibiting one of these tenets, our scholars had a chance to earn a Mustang Merit. When they earned 20 Merits, they were able to attend our Pajama Party, where we watched the new Disney film, Wish.
Student of the Month: Pizza Party with the Principal
Students who were nominated for Pizza Party with the Principal got their reward this month. Students got to have lunch with Ms. Baader and Mr. Davis and got to know other high achievers in the school together.

From our Special Educators
Social Work, Speech Therapy, & Learning Disabilities Resource Services
The end of the school year is quickly approaching and the students have been working so hard this school year! In March the 3rd-5th graders participated in IAR and in April the 5th graders participated in ISA testing. The students who received small group accommodations used the strategies that they have been working on with their resource teachers, Mrs. Albertino, Ms. Green, Mrs. Gervase, Mrs. Pounds and Mrs. Taylor. Taking their time, re-reading the questions, thinking through the question and their response, and just doing their very best. We were all very proud of them! We will keep reminding them to do the same when we have NWEA testing again in May.
In the coming weeks, the students will be progress monitored for 4th quarter/ end of the year report cards along with all of the fun activities that each of us have planned in our small groups for the students who receive LD Resource, Speech, and Social Work services, as well as all of the activities that the whole school will be participating in. End of the year already- can you believe it!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to any of us on the Special Education Team here at Sieden Prairie. Thank you so much for working with us as a team, as we all are working toward having the students being their very best!

In the last few weeks, we've noticed a few students with head lice. Here's what to do if you think your child has head lice:
1. Contact your physician for specific recommendations
2. Then, all household members including your child should be treated with a medicated shampoo for killing head lice. Follow directions carefully for maximum effectiveness and safety. If there are allergic or very young people in your home, contact your doctor first.
- Nits should be removed after shampooing
- All personal and household items worn or used before the shampoo treatment should be disinfected by being laundered in hot (above 120 degrees) soapy water and dried in a hot dryer or dry-cleaned, or thoroughly vacuumed or sealed in an airtight plastic bag for 35 days, or sprayed with insecticidal lice spray.
- Home furnishings, carpets, and cars should be vacuumed thoroughly. Vacuum bags should always be discarded after use when an infestation is suspected.
- Everyone in your household should understand not to share bed linens, pillows, clothing, hair combs, or brushes with others.
- If a reinfestation occurs, repeating the treatment procedure and discovering the source of infestation are of great importance.
