Hello From Principal Bissue
Exciting news from LGCS!
πΏππΏππΏππΏππΏππΏππΏπ
Welcome to March!
Hello, LGCS Families and Community,
Spring is right around the corner, and with it comes a lot of excitement and energy here at school! As we move into March, weβre encouraging students to stay focused on learning while remembering the importance of kindness. Helping a friend, sharing a smile, or inviting someone new to join in at recess are small acts of kindness that go a long way in making our school a positive and welcoming place for everyone.
With spring fever in the air, we also want to remind families that Coloradoβs unpredictable weather likes to keep us on our toes this time of year. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in layers and brings a jacket each day so theyβre prepared for anythingβwhether itβs sunshine, wind, or snow!
We are still seeing seasonal illnesses, and we appreciate your help in keeping our school healthy. Please remember that students need to be symptom-free and medication-free for at least 24 hours before returning to school. If your child is out for several days, we ask that you bring a doctorβs note when they return so we can document their absence appropriately. Students are granted the same number of days to make up work as the number of days they were absent, but please note that as we get closer to the end of the quarter, quarter-end dates are firm deadlines. Once the quarter closes, grades cannot be adjusted, so all missing work must be completed before that time.
Looking ahead, Spring Break is coming up at the end of the month, and we hope everyone finds time to relax, recharge, and enjoy some fun family time. Whether planning an adventure or staying close to home, there are many ways to make the most of the breakβtake a family hike, visit the library, create some fun spring crafts, or set a family reading challenge. Whatever you do, we hope itβs filled with laughter, rest, and quality time together.

100th Day is Tuesday, March 18th
The 100th Day of School is a fun milestone for elementary students, especially in pre-K through 3rd grade, to celebrate 100 days of learning. Teachers often use this day to reinforce math skills like counting to 100, skip counting, or collecting 100 items. Itβs a great chance to celebrate both learning and creativity!
Teachers will communicate to families if their class will be doing anything special.

Security Spotlight
π¦ Attention Parents & Visitors π¦
With spring approaching, our students and staff will be spending more time outside. This makes it even more important to slow down and come to a complete stop at the stop sign outside our front doors.
We have noticed an increasing number of drivers rolling through or ignoring the stop sign, which creates a serious safety hazard. With warmer weather, there will be more children walking, running, and playing nearby, so we ask that all drivers:
β
Follow the posted speed limits
β
Come to a full stop at the stop sign
β
Stay alert and cautious
Also, please do not drop off your students before 7:30am. We do not have staff available to supervise students who arrive before 7:30am and want to ensure students are not waiting outside the building unsupervised in the mornings. Thank you for your help and cooperation.
The safety of our school community depends on everyone driving responsibly. Letβs work together to keep our children, staff, and families safe!
Thank you for your cooperation!

Student Support Services
Ms. Chelsea Wages
"Our topics this month are focused on empathy and following the Golden Rule (treat others how you want to be treated). We are discussing problem-solving strategies for peer conflict, what it means to be a friend, and ways we can show kindness to those around us each day.
There are still a few open appointment times for those interested in registering their child for individual therapy services. Currently, 9 of the 12 available time slots have been filled. Please contact Chelsea Wages at cwages@lgcsco.org for more information."

Message from the Kitchen
Dear Families,
We are making a few adjustments to help our food services run more efficiently while continuing to provide nutritious and balanced meals for our students. Chef James has been working hard to ensure all meals meet the healthy lunch regulations set by CDE, with appropriate serving sizes based on age ranges following a 2,000-calorie diet.
We understand that growing students have big appetites, and we are committed to offering a variety of healthy choices each month. However, to ensure proper portioning and meal availability for all students, we have stopped second servings for lunch until further notice.
For breakfast, students may receive a meal (cereal or the hot breakfast that is served), and if they would like cereal as a second serving for a snack later, they are welcome to take oneβbut this option will only be available during breakfast service.
Families, please watch for an invoice coming home with your child if there are any additional charges on their lunch accounts. Students eat breakfast and lunch for free this year. However, additional milk, water, or other items beyond the standard meal. Scan the QR code to pay with PayPal. Please note your child's name in the comments for that payment. Feel free to send cash or check with your child if you prefer. If you have any questions about these charges, please contact Heather Olivares, our business manager.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we continue working to improve our food service operations.
Thank you,
LGCS Kitchen Team

School Happenings
It's that time of year- March Mammal Madness (MMM) is here! MMM is a simulated animal tournament that takes place annually. It's inspired by the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. The goal of MMM is to educate and delight people about animals and science.
MMM is a tournament of sorts, where there are made up scenarios where 65 different organisms (not just mammals) come into contact in different habitats, and the 'last one standing (or staying on the field)' wins.
Students and classes participate in this by creating brackets and prizes given to the winners!
Thanks to Ms. Meyer for running this tournament at Lake George again this year!
Bring in those pop-tops and lightly used winter items to support K-Kids. All sizes of coats, hats, gloves, scarves and boots are greatly appreciated and will help children of all ages in our community.

School Closure Information
School closing due to weather or other emergencies
LGCS may need to close for a variety of reasons that are out of our immediate control.
Some of those reasons might be:
1. Weather Conditions: Snow, icy roads, and/or wind.
2. Boiler, plumbing, or emergency alarm systems.
3. Other emergencies deemed by the Administrator/Superintendent to warrant the school to close.
Inclement Weather Before School Starts
If a decision is made to cancel or delay school, initial phone calls will be made as early as possible. For evening notifications, we aim to send messages by 9:00 pm, while morning notifications will go out by 5:30 am. Any delay or closure information will also be posted on our website at www.lakegeorgecharterschool.com and shared with local TV stations. Additionally, you will receive an email and/or phone call, depending on the preference you selected during registration. If you arenβt receiving these notifications but believe you should be, please see Mrs. Kris or Mrs. April in the front office so we can ensure your contact information is up-to-date.
For a delayed start, the school will open at 9:30 am. Please do not drop off your children before this time, as there will be no supervision available. On delayed-start days, breakfast will not be served.
In the event of a 2-hour delay, we ask that families use their best judgment regarding safe travel. With families traveling from different areas around Park and Teller County, we understand that road conditions can vary significantly. Please prioritize your familyβs safety and call the school if you decide itβs best to stay home. This helps us ensure that everyone is accounted for and allows us to adjust our student count accordingly.
