From the Principal:
Dear St. Bernard Parents,
If you haven’t had a chance, please take a moment to read the email that I sent out yesterday regarding staffing at St. Bernard for the 25/26 School Year. And continue to pray for us as we prepare for the coming school year!
We were once again reminded at Mass today (this time by Father Bryan) that we are just now past the halfway point of the Lenten Season. And he encouraged us to check in on how we are doing - Are we keeping our prayer commitments? Are we fasting (from something that maybe impedes our relationship with God)? Are we giving alms - or giving of ourselves in some way? Let’s take this time to recommit!
The other point that Father really highlighted (and I’m glad that he did because I’ve been thinking about this too) was the importance of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I am sad to say that we were not able to schedule a Penance Service for students during the Lenten Season. This is something that we have traditionally done in an effort to provide students with that cleansing opportunity leading up to Easter. Unfortunately, a few things have made this more difficult for us lately… The family of parishes set up and the sharing of priests has actually made this a bit more difficult, and then add on to that Father Jim’s health and cancer treatments - we just don’t have the freedom that we once had. BUT! That doesn’t mean we should throw in the towel. I would say that it is crucial for all of our students (who have already received sacraments) to make it to confession over the Lenten Season. The best way to make this happen and to create a lasting impact that goes beyond the immediate soul cleansing is to go as a family! There are regular confessions in our parish and a variety of other options throughout the city. Here are 3 reasons for you to go to confession before we reach Easter: (1) Your soul will be cleansed! Growth in virtue is easier when we clear out those obstacles (vices) that stand in the way of right and ordered living. (2) You will feel better! I’ve never heard of anyone regretting going to confession. It’s easy to put it off and to play the mental game of thinking how awkward it might be, but getting it done provides such a relief. There really is a physical component (a type of relief) when we have that soul cleansing in the confessional. (3) Going to confession will have a lasting impact on your children. If kids see you do it then they are likely to follow suit. If they see you avoid it then that seed of avoidance will be sown in them. It’s a lot of responsibility that we have as parents, but God provides the necessary grace! Please make an effort to get to confession and to take your children with you this Lent. I will be working with Father and Mrs. Yoder to get confessions scheduled at school in the future.
Mary, Queen of Heaven Confessions:
St. Bernard - Saturdays at 3
St. Ann - Mondays/Thursdays from 5:00-6:30
St. James - Fridays from 9-10am
If you can’t make it to any of the available confession time in our Family of Parishes, don’t give up! A few quick searches on area churches could yield the results you are looking for. My family often ends up at St. John the Baptist Church in Harrison as they have Confessions from 8-9am on Saturdays (and sometimes that’s just the only time we have).
Have a great rest of your week! God bless!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ertel
From Parents Club:
Hi Families! Parents Club has a few exciting things to share this week.
- OLYMPIC DAY is quickly approaching! Tomorrow we will send home an order form for Olympic Day shirts with each student. Please send those back, along with the $7 payment, by April 4th. All students should purchase a shirt. Each grade will have their own color and 8th grade can select their color. Please let me know if you have any questions. We're still finalizing a few details for Olympic Day but we'll have volunteer sign ups out shortly!
- Due to the success of our last Nothing Bundt Cakes Fundraiser, we've decided to do it again just in time for Easter! Order forms will be sent home tomorrow, or you can place orders online using the Cheddar Up link below. All bundtlets are $7 each. Orders are due by April 4th and orders can be picked up from 3-5pm on Wednesday, April 16th. If you need other arrangements for pickup or have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Ross, Brooke Williams or Chelsea Blust. https://nothing-bundt-cakes-fundraiser-copy-3235.cheddarup.com
From Athletics:
Soccer Sign-Ups!!
It is time to start thinking about fall 2025 and our soccer program. The league like to have team counts set early summer, so that means we need to start our sign-ups now. Please visit our website for the link to register for next fall.
Katie Jacob and Brad Scheper will be our coordinators this year, so please reach out to them if you have any questions.
Lunch Volunteers Needed!
We need help facilitating the distribution of lunches for the students. On normal days, we need one extra adult per day to help our staff. On pizza lunch days, we need three adults to help distribute the meals. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!!!
***Please note, all school volunteers must be current and compliant with Safe Parish. (see below)

IMPORTANT: EDCHOICE REQUIREMENTS
Our school has 175 scholarships awarded for the 2024-25 school year. There are two important steps that I need parents to complete in order for the school to receive scholarship funds to cover tuition costs:
- For each awarded EdChoice scholarship, I must have an Acceptance Form signed and turned in at the office. Nearly everyone has signed and returned them. If you have not already, please contact me in the school office. Thank you!
- Please follow the LINK to authorize St. Bernard School to deposit funds from the scholarship checks to pay for tuition. The Ohio Department of Education issues scholarship checks on a monthly basis which require this permission to be deposited. Please take care of this immediately if you have not already. Again, most of you took care of this. Thank you!
Please contact me in the school office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Yours in Christ,
Kenny Glassmeyer, Office Manager

BLUE FOLDERS
Please return all blue folders to school each week.
BLUE FOLDER CONTENTS THIS WEEK:
- Progress Reports (grades 5-8 only)
Blue folders will go home with the OLDEST student in each family on Wednesdays, as needed, throughout the school year. These will contain any important handouts or forms that need to be submitted in paper form. Anytime we can share documents in a digital format to provide information or link you to online resources, we will do so instead of filling your home with papers.
