Dear DPM Families,
We have officially set sail and we kicked off the school year with a bang! It was so energizing to finally have students back in the building. The first couple of days were full of smiles and excitement for the year ahead as we celebrated with our students and staff. We would like to express our gratitude for the generous contributions of our wonderful Deer Path school community that helped make this week possible.
Thank you to APT for making the start of the school year such a success! From beautifying the front of the school, to the institute day lunch for our staff, to helping StuCrew bring in the Kona Ice truck for their fellow students. We’re so incredibly grateful for your partnership!
Thank you to the Spirit of 67 for the Fine Arts Spirit Grant that allowed us to invite the rock band, Attaboy, to perform their music and share their valuable message about how to take care of yourself and those around you. Students and staff were on stage dancing along to the music while their peers were cheering them on.
Thank you to the Ginter family for treating our staff to snow cones from their Snowie shaved ice truck. Mr. Ginter and our his son, 7th grader Gabe, kindly served the shaved ice themselves to thank our staff directly for their hard work and dedication to making DPM the best school it can be.
Weeks like this are a reminder of how truly special our Lake Forest community is. We will keep the positive momentum going as we dive into instruction next week. Looking forward to another great school year!
Dr. Michelle Shinn, 5/6 Principal
Mr. Sam Paulsen, 7/8 Principal

It’s Brave to Get Involved!
Joining a club, sport, or activity in middle school is a great way for any student to feel like they belong and that they’re a part of something bigger than themselves. Coming up on September 3rd, we will host the annual Activities Fair during the lunch periods for students see what extracurricular opportunities are available. Here’s a little window into one of our most popular student activities: The DPM Garden Club!
- DPM has a flourishing garden and we would love for you and your student to be a part of it. The Garden Club meets on Tuesdays after school from 3:35 to 4:45 with parent pick up in the CUBE parking lot. Student members help harvest, weed, water, and maintain the garden throughout the fall. We take a break in the winter months and then gear up to plant come spring time! If you have questions, please reach out to the Garden Club sponsor, Jill Zoul.
Food Delivery Reminders
Students are prohibited from receiving food deliveries from outside vendors such as Door Dash or Uber Eats during the school day and during after-school events/activities. Food delivery services present a safety concern, and we cannot permit unknown individuals bringing unknown items to be delivered to students on campus. Food delivery service for students will be refused by the office staff.
*REPEAT* Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
With the start of a new school year, we want to remind everyone of the arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure student safety as they travel to and from school.
- Parent Pickup / Drop-off - Drop-off begins at 8:05 am in the FRONT of the building and the student schedule starts at 8:35 am with their first class. Pick-up begins at 3:35 pm in the BACK of the building. Monday pick up is at 2:35 pm due to Early Release.
- Buses - The school buses pick students up from a bus stop and drop them off at school in the BACK of the building. Then, at the end of the day, the buses pick the students up in FRONT for the end-of-the-day routes. The buses get released at 2:35 pm on Mondays and 3:35 pm for the rest of the week.
- Walkers / Riders - Pedestrians can enter the school from either main entrance or through the cafeteria doors off the back patio. Bikes and scooters are to be walked and not ridden once they are school property. Please encourage your child to wear a helmet when they ride a bike or scooter and adhere to pedestrian safety rules.
Thank you for your patience, as dismissal typically takes a little longer during the beginning of the year. Please note: Hastings Road, which leads to the back parking lot, is one lane in both directions. All cars must stay in the right lane and wait for the line of cars to enter the back parking lot. It is illegal to drive down the left lane into the incoming traffic leaving the Lake Forest Rec Center and it creates hazardous conditions for our students trying to get home safely.
