Dear Decatur Township Families,
I hope this message finds you well as we move into what has started as a very rainy month of April! I hope that you and your children had a terrific spring break as we finish strong during these last two months of school. We have so many exciting updates and celebrations to share with you in this month’s newsletter.
STEAM Fest – April 10th
We are excited to announce the upcoming STEAM Fest on April 10th! This event highlights the achievements of our students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). It’s a great opportunity to see how our students are engaging in innovative, hands-on learning. We encourage all families to attend and support our students as they showcase their projects. STEAM Fest is scheduled for Thursday, April 10th, at the Blue and Gold Academies (enter Door 14), from 5:30-7:30 pm.
JAG Recognition for DCHS Student
Congratulations to Taiwo Ogunmilade, a student at Decatur Central High School (DCHS), who placed 3rd in "Prepared Speaking" at the JAG State Career Development Conference! The JAG CDC is a prestigious event that brings together Indiana’s top young talent to compete in areas like public speaking, business development, financial literacy, and employability skills. Taiwo's achievement is a testament to her hard work and dedication. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and excited to see what the future holds for her. Taiwo is pictured below with her JAG Teacher, Molly Hansen.
DC Band Winter Percussion Ensemble
Please join me in congratulating our Winter Percussion Ensemble for their outstanding performance at the IPA State Finals, where they earned an impressive seventh-place finish! Their dedication and commitment were truly evident in their performance. The ensemble will now be heading to the WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH, and we wish them the best as they continue to represent Decatur Central with pride and passion.
Stephen Decatur Elementary – Mrs. Herbert’s Class
We are also excited to share that Mrs. Herbert's 3rd grade class at Stephen Decatur Elementary was named a top 4 finalist in the WISH TV News "I Love to Read" Challenge! Each student received a book and game pass as part of their well-deserved reward. This accomplishment speaks to the dedication of both the students and their teacher in fostering a love for reading.
