Principal's Message
Kia ora Whaanau,
Preparations have been underway for our Matariki celebration at Te Kotahitanga Marae on the 28th. These nights are always a fabulous celebration of te ao maaori and I highly recommend coming along.
Last week I met with the Community Board to table our concerns around the safety of our road at pick up and drop off times. After that I met with the Waikato District Council’s road safety officer who has gone away to come up with some plans around what could be done to make the road safe. Our main concerns are around how narrow the road gets making it hard for cars to pass in both directions and the poor visibility particularly on the school side for cars pulling out of car spaces. A big thank you to Rosemarie and Carolyn who have been helping us with this issue. There are a few things we can do now that would help, the first encouraging students to use the crossing rather than walking out behind or between the buses, parking opposite the hall rather than in the end of the rugby driveway (this is where the buses turn), and if you have young children meeting them on the school side of the road and crossing with them as they cannot be seen. Your help with these small things would be greatly appreciated and will ensure our students and drivers all stay safe. The road will be changing to 40km as per the council's change to all roads around schools and school signs will be put up. As of now we do not have a date for when this will happen.
We are also working with the Waikato Council to plant 75 fruit trees around the domain area. Plans are underway for a group of students to help plant the trees as part of our work with connecting to the community.
This week we gathered voice from our students as part of our internal reviews for PB4L. We used a general survey as well as targeted group discussion to hear what our students are thinking. The information from this will help contribute to the picture of where the school is at and what we need to work on next. The community survey is still open so if you haven’t completed it please take a few minutes to do so. Here is the link https://forms.gle/YQmNEgxRJArwfvjD7.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate Anna Ronaki who has been appointed HOD of PE and Health. Justine, who has been on maternity leave, is going to work as a facilitator for healthy schools. We wish Justine all the best with her new adventure.
Have a great weekend
Ngaa mihi,
