BAILEY PVA: THE LEADING CHOICE
VISION
To establish a Middle School of the Performing and Visual Arts that serves a dual-purpose focusing on arts and academics within a comprehensive middle school structure. Students will participate in rigorous Pre-AP core academic classes while exploring and developing skills/concentrations in the areas of dance, drama, instructional music, vocal music, film/media, fine arts, music technology and creative writing.
MISSION
MSPVA students will have the opportunity to attend local, state and national arts related events as well as participate in arts-related internships, apprenticeships, cultural projects and community service.
2021-2022 Student Dress Code
Bailey Middle School’s philosophy is to maintain a focus on the educational process and ensure the reduction of distractions and disruptions to the learning environment. To assist with meeting our goals, we will utilize and enforce the dress code as listed. Please click below to view our dress code policy.

*IMPORTANT TO NOTE*
NO HOODIES ALLOWED. Hoodies include any pullover or zippered/buttoned jacket, shirt, or sweater with an attached or detachable hood. Please do not purchase them as a part of your child's school uniform. They will be confiscated.

Returning Students - Annual Update
Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year!
In order to ensure a strong start to the school year, we need all parents and guardians to complete the annual student update process as soon as possible. This important, online process will allow our campuses to finalize student schedules and plan appropriately for the upcoming school year.
Just like last year, we will require that parents/guardians log into the Spring ISD website www.springisd.org then click on the MySpringISD portal icon. From within the portal, you’ll be able log into the Home Access Center to access the annual update.
We have outlined the specific steps below and are also linking a Parent Guide that provides detailed instructions with screenshots. If you require any additional support please contact your campus. Also, the Family Engagement Department will be providing in person support on July 19-22 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Spring ISD Community Engagement Center, located at 17125 Ella Blvd., Houston, TX 77090.
Please don’t delay in completing this annual update so we can keep you informed of all campus and district news such as afterschool programs, free/reduced meals, bus transportation, schedules and all of the services you and your students rely on.
So here’s what the primary parent/guardian will need to do to log in and complete the Annual Update for each child in the district:
LOG IN
1. Go to www.springisd.org, then click on the MySpringISD icon and enter the Portal and log-in using your Username and Password
a. This is the same Username and Password that you use to view student grades and attendance
b. If you are having trouble logging into the Portal, and/or you can't remember your Username and/or Password please contact your campus-or review the parent guide.
c. Use the same Username and Password that you just used for the Portal to log into the Home Access Center (HAC) to continue with the application process.
COMPLETE ANNUAL UPDATES IN THE HOME ACCESS CENTER
2. Make sure you have the Registration icon selected and then select the Update Enrollment tab
3. Under Available Forms, select “Start” to complete the 2022 Returning Student Registration Form
4. Enter the student’s date of birth to begin the form
For parents of more than one student, you will need to complete the registration of one student FIRST and submit it.
Once you have successfully submitted one Returning Student Registration, return to Home Access Center (HAC) and click on the current student name in the top right of the header. Select the next student from the list and then click Submit.
If you have questions, please contact your campus or our district support number at 281-891-6337.
Parents and guardians are required to complete their student’s registration prior to the first day of school on Aug. 11.
INTRODUCING: THE 2021-2022 BAILEY SCHOOL FOR PERFORMING & VISUAL ARTS LEADERSHIP TEAM
Shundra Brown, Building Principal
Shundra Brown is thrilled to be the continuing principal of Bailey Middle School. Over the last eleven years, she has worked tirelessly to build schools that inspire and equip all students to pursue futures beyond what they can imagine. Prior to coming to Spring, Shundra led campus transformation at the elementary, middle and high school levels. She has served as a Middle School Assistant Principal, High School House Principal, and Elementary Principal in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. She holds advanced degrees in Teaching and Educational Administration. Ms. Brown was born and raised in Houston--and she is delighted to come back home.

Lead and manage all daily school operations and programs.

Dr. Kara Marquez, Associate Building Principal
Dr. Kara Marquez is honored to serve as the Associate Principal at Bailey Middle School. Dr. Marquez has served in Spring ISD for 15 years at Spring High School and Carl Wunsche Senior High School as an assistant principal, science instructional specialist, and teacher. Dr. Marquez earned her bachelors degree in Chemistry and Mathematics, as well as a masters degree in Education Administration from Sam Houston State University. In 2016, Dr. Marquez earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership, culminating with a dissertation entitled “Analysis of High School Scheduling Frameworks and Student Achievement.”
Dr. Marquez is proud to be a first generation college graduate and strives to provide equitable education opportunities to all students.
Dr. Marquez is happily married to her high school sweetheart and has 2 teenage sons. She enjoys reading, biking, and anything involving water. She also aspires to complete a triathlon.

Mrs. Daniella Cole, 6th Grade House Principal
Mrs. Cole is no stranger to Bailey Middle School! She is our campus Instructional Specialist, and she has over seven years of successful experience in curriculum assessment and development. She has been recognized consistently for performance excellence and contributions with proven success in leadership, operational excellence and organizational development with a keen understanding of instructional deficits of at-risk learners and turn around campuses. Most recently, Mrs. Cole spearheaded "The Concurrent Experience" and the Bailey "Summer Bridge Program". Both initiatives were very successful. We are excited to welcome Mrs. Cole to the Administrative Leadership Team!

Jy’Syria D. Selmon, 7th Grade House Principal
Ms. Selmon is delighted to serve as your 7th Grade Assistant Principal this year. She is a proud Mississippian turned Houstonian entering her 12th year in Education, eight of which have been right here at Bailey, so it is safe to say that she is definitely “TEAM BAILEY”! Ms. Selmon has had the opportunity to serve in many roles as an educator including both a 6th and 8th grade ELAR teacher, teacher leader, testing coordinator, registrar, cheer coach, and student activities sponsor.
Ms. Selmon received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and her Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Southern Mississippi. “Southern Miss to the Top!” She moved here to Texas in 2013 after having taught in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and she has been a proud Bailey Buccaneer ever since!
She eager to work with each of you, and is looking forward to an amazing year of growth and achievement at The Rickey C. Bailey School for Performing and Visual Arts. In the words of our fearless leader, Principal Brown, we have to remember to “Pivot, not panic”, and when we feel as if we have nothing more to give, we must remember, “The show goes on.” Go Bucs!

Ms. Lauren Hooks, 8th Grade House Principal
Lauren M. Hooks serves as the 8th grade Assistant Principal at Bailey Middle School. Ms. Hooks earned her Bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University in Speech Communication with a minor in Child and Family Development. After teaching for a few years, Ms. Hooks decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University to hone in her leadership skills in education.
Prior to becoming an Assistant Principal, Ms. Hooks’ experiences consisted of Special Education Coordinator-Spring ISD, Special Education Instructional Coach and Life Skills Teacher-Humble ISD, and Inclusion Paraprofessional-Houston ISD.
Ms. Hooks firmly believes that learning is maximized when meaningful relationships are developed between all stakeholders. In addition, ALL students CAN LEARN if we, educators, meet the students where they are and provide them with the necessary tools to be successful.

All incoming 6th grades students who did not attend our previous Summer Bridge Camp are required to attend this final session of our 6th grade Summer Bridge Camp. The camp will allow our incoming 6th graders an opportunity to get acclimated to our campus expectations, as well as, meet some of our wonderful staff.

To Parents/Guardians of Bailey Middle School Football Players:
On behalf of the Bailey Middle School Football Coaching Staff, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 2021 football season. We are excited about this upcoming season! Football practice will begin on Monday, August 16.
Please be aware that on Thursday, August 5, there will be a mandatory parent meeting and equipment distribution beginning at 6:00 p.m. Players are required to have a completed physical and Rank One in order to receive equipment, participate in practice, and participate in games.

The report card is accessible via the Home Access Center. If you need access to the parent Home Access Center email cemanu1@springisd.org for your username and password.
Q: Did I pass or fail?
Unless you received a letter and phone call from your grade level administrator specifically stating that you were retained, you were promoted to the next grade level.
Q: My student did not turn in his/her Chromebook. What should we do?
If your student is attending a SISD campus this year, he/she will utilize the same Chromebook for this school year.
