ARHS Community Happenings!
October 4, 2024
A Word From The Principal
It has been another busy week at Amity, and here are some highlights and upcoming events to know about:
- Our Visual & Performing Arts department was featured at Monday’s Board of Education meeting, and the performance by the violin duet of senior Benjamin Wang and sophomore Victoria Pelton was amazing.
- We took a day off from school on Thursday to observe the Jewish new year celebration of Rosh Hashana. For all of you who celebrate the holiday, we wish you, “Shanah tovah um’tukah!”
- We learned this week that Amity Regional High School has been selected as an Advanced Placement Honor Roll School by the College Board. This distinction recognizes “schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success.” Our theme for this year is Amity Celebrates All Students’ Success, and this honor highlights the work our faculty has been doing to open the doors to college-level courses for as many students as possible.
- Throughout October, our Student Government will be highlighting its efforts to raise funds and awareness for the Smilow Cancer Center. If you are attending any of our home sports events this month, please wear one of our “Pink Out” t-shirts if you have one, or any other pink clothing you have, to show your support for this worthy cause.
- Our annual PSAT testing day for students in Grades 9-11 will occur on Thursday, Oct. 17. This will be an early-dismissal day, and students in grades 9-11 will each take the grade level-appropriate PSAT test in school that day. More information on the specifics of the day were sent out to parents in grades 9-11 in an email from our Counseling department on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Students in Grade 12 will not report to school that day, and we encourage all of them to use the day to further their post-secondary planning efforts. A few ways they could use the day for this goal would be to work on their Common App or college essays, schedule a visit to an area college or university, or schedule a job shadow with someone in a career field you may wish to pursue.
Go Spartans!
