PAWS Incentives
The ROAR Store
It's time to launch our first on-going behavior incentive—The Roar Store! This is a weekly opportunity to honor our PAWS Star of the Week and keep reminding all students about our positive behavior expectations. During the week, teachers decide who will receive their Roar Store ticket for best representing the PAWS expectations in action. Teachers give the ticket to its recipient on Thursday. Friday morning, the Roar Store ticket holders can stop by the Roar Store in the main hallway to select their prize.
FAQs
Q. What is in the Roar Store?
A. Chips, water, treats, fidgets, Gatorades, fun stationary, and other prizes!
Q. If my student is absent or tardy on Friday, how can they spend their Roar Store ticket?
A. Tickets can be spent the week they are received or the following week. Tickets expire after two weeks. The Roar Store is only open during arrival.
DON'T FORGET! Our first whole-school incentive will be Pops in the "Park" on Oct. 4th. To receive their ice pop, students must meet these criteria:
- No office referrals from 9/3-10/3
- No more than 3 minor write ups 9/3-10/3
What Our Tigers Are Learning
This week, we were excited to welcome almost a thousand students to Kiser! It was wonderful watching them meet new friends, get to know their teachers, and start learning new things!
ELA
Our students use the EL curriculum in their ELA classes. In the coming weeks, classes will be working on their first novel study units of the year! 6th grade is reading Percy Jackson, 7th grade is reading A Long Walk to Water, and 8th grade is reading The Summer of the Mariposas. For information about the curriculum, please check out the materials for families on the EL website.
7th Grade
Reviewing warm-up answers
6th Grade
Students are preparing for their Percy Jackson read by imagining their own contributions to Greek mythology
Math
Math classes use the Open Up curriculum along with supplemental materials. Students will be receiving their first unit workbooks soon! You can also access all the student and family materials online using the links below. When you or your student needs even more help, check out Mr. Morgan's Math Help for videos explaining the strategies.
Math 6 Family Materials: Math 6 students are working on area and surface area! See what they can tell you about tiling the plane and parallelograms.
Math 7 Family Materials: Math 7 students are working on scale drawings. See if they can tell you what a scale factor is. Look at a map together. Can they tell you what the scale factor is?
Math 8 Family Materials: Math 8 students are working on transformations on a coordinate plane. Ask them about reflections, rotations, and translations--which one means to flip a shape?
Math 1 Family Materials: Math 1 students are working on sequencing and learning some new math vocabulary. See if they can describe a recursive equation to you. How does a recursive equation help us figure out sequences?
Math 2 Family Materials: Math 2 students are exploring transformations and symmetries. See if they can use that review to answer these questions: Can you draw a quadrilateral that has only one line of symmetry? Can you draw a polygon that has three lines of symmetry?

- Bring your device each day fully charged
- Only use your device when instructed to do so and in the way you are supposed to
- Keep your device in your bag during all transitions so it isn't dropped or damaged
- Devices must be put away in the cafeteria and at PA Time to avoid damage
- If your device is damaged or lost, report it to Ms. Wasserman immediately

Getting Ready for Athletics!
Do you have a student athlete interested in participating in sports this year? Go ahead and be ready when that season starts by creating your Dragonfly account and uploading your child's physical form now! Per GCS policy, all students must have a physical form on file before they can participate in workouts, tryouts, practices, or games. Questions? See the athletics page of the website for the forms and details.
This week, our Tigers traveled to Southeast to take on the Other Conaway’s SE Falcons. The volleyball team took 4 out of 4 games to complete the sweep. The Tiger boys soccer team scored at will beating the Falcons by a score of 7-1.
Our cross country team traveled to Summerfield Charter to run in an invitational. Our Girls team brought home a 2nd place trophy.
The football team played a scrimmage against Lincoln this week, and we can't wait to see them in action in their first game next week! Our cheerleaders also performed in a showcase for the Kiser community on Monday!
Visit the Athletics page of the Kiser website for new information throughout the seasons!
Support the Roar Store
In the coming weeks, we will launch our Roar Store incentive. Every week, each teacher will select a PAWS All-Star from among their students. This PAWS exemplar will receive a ticket to spend at the Roar Store on a treat of their choosing. To help us make this incentive possible, we need donations and volunteers! If you are interested in helping, please contact Dr. Bocci at boccim@gcsnc.com. The more we can stock the store, the more PAWS All-Stars we can recognize each week!
Kiser Candy Crew
Showing appreciation to the Kiser teachers and staff just got easier! Help us keep Mrs. Parker's candy bowl full for those hard days. The teachers love to pop in for a sugar boost. Click this link to ship a bag of candy (or two) directly to Kiser. When you check out items you are sending to Kiser, the option for the school address will be the second choice. Thank you for your donation!
