Staff Appreciation Week
On behalf of the entire staff, THANK YOU for the kind words, acts of appreciation and for spoiling us throughout the week (and a special thank you to Mrs. Richardson and her team for making things happen). It really was a special week!
Members of our kindness club got Friday started in a positive way. They were wearing their new shirts to welcome our students with smiles, joy and positive messages. Thanks for helping get our day started on the right foot!
Storm Science Assembly
Mr. Nick and Storm Science presented a weather-related assembly for our students on Tuesday, and the students (and staff) really enjoyed it. Mr. Nick is a meteorologist and storm chaser, and he made use of visuals, demos, lecture and storytelling to help us understand the "whys" behind severe weather. He also helped us understand how to stay safe when severe weather is present. The assembly concluded with a thunderstorm demo and a huge vapor cloud. Check it out in this video:
Field Day, 2024
We are excited to host Field Day this year on Tuesday, May 28.
Field Day will be set up as a full day experience, and students will be participating in indoor and outdoor activities. Students will rotate through a variety of outdoor station/sport/play stations during one half of the day, and they will focus on an SEL movie and related activities for the other half of the day. PTA will provide lunch.
Students will be outside for an extended period of time. Grades K-3 will be outside in the morning, and Grades 4-6 will be outside in the afternoon.
-Please make sure students have a water bottle and appropriate sun protection. Students are able to bring sun protection to school to apply as desired.
-The school will remain available for student access, and there are planned breaks throughout the day.
Lunch:
-PTA will be providing a cheese pizza hot lunch from Zazzo's--the same company that we currently use for our pizza fun lunches. This lunch will also include a bag of Lay's chips (same as used for Al's lunches)
-All students will receive the same lunch (no special orders).
-Families are free to send a packed lunch from home for dietary/personal preferences.
Popsicles:
-One of the outdoor stations will include a break and popsicle (label picture coming).
-Families can send an alternate popsicle to school for dietary/personal preferences.
Rain Date:
We will not be able to accommodate a make-up day due to inclement weather. In the event of rain, we will continue on with the movie and SEL portions of the day and the pizza hot lunch. Teachers will have alternate activities to make up for the outdoor stations.
I've attached a link that will take you to our PTA's site to sign up as a volunteer, and it will be in PTA's update as well. Volunteers will be captured in much the same way as signing up for classroom party help. We will need support for the outdoor portions of the day (K-3 in the morning and 4-6 in the afternoon) and for lunch. Thank you in advance for your help and support!
End-of-Year Assembly
We are excited to host an end-of-year assembly again this year. This is a fun opportunity to recognize students who have participated in activities at Belle Aire or within the district. It’s also a time that we recognize strong character (via Citizenship Awards for Grs. K-6) and learner behaviors and academics (via the Presidential Award for Gr. 6). Families are welcomed to attend this all-school assembly, and I’ve included a list of various recognitions.

Honor a staff member with a Green Apple Award!
The Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 invites the community to recognize an exceptional District 58 staff member with a Green Apple Award.
When you submit a Green Apple Award donation, the Education Foundation will give a specially designed Green Apple Award certificate to the specified teacher or staff member with a short, custom message from the donor.
All donations will support the Education Foundation’s programs, which include the Select 58 Recognition Awards for Eighth Graders, The Reading Games, Sneak Preview, Teacher Grants Program, Distinguished Service Awards, New Teacher Luncheon, and more.
Green Apple donations and messages may be submitted online here. All donations are tax-deductible. While the Green Apple Program is open year-round, if you would like your Green Apple Award to be delivered before the end of the school year, please submit your donation by Friday, May 17.
