District Update - November 1
Superintendent's Message
It’s hard to believe that nine weeks have passed since we welcomed everyone back for the 2024-2025 school year. It's incredible how time flies when we're busy learning and growing together.
Our students are not only excelling academically; they are also achieving important social-emotional milestones, engaging in a variety of extracurricular activities, and giving back to our community in meaningful ways. Success in a school year requires incredible effort and dedication, and our Middies have certainly risen to the challenge.
I want to take a moment to recognize our team of staff members who work tirelessly to inspire, educate, and support our students. Their desire for excellence is second to none, and we know that our achievements are made possible by their hard work. I also want to express our gratitude to the community for its vital role in nurturing our educational endeavors. Without the support of our Midview families, alumni, and friends, we would not be where we are today.
Looking ahead to the second quarter and beyond, I am eager for all we will continue to accomplish together. As shared in our recent State of the Schools Address (more information below), we are proud to be in a position of growth, with increasing enrollment, a commendable performance on the state report card, plans for a new strategic plan, and plenty to celebrate within our buildings and departments. The future is certainly bright here on the Midview Local Schools campus.
Thank you for making Midview a wonderful place for our students to learn, grow, and thrive. Your trust in us to educate and nurture your children is deeply appreciated.
Warm regards,
Dr. Frank Major, Superintendent

Feature Story
STEM Goes Red for Girls
Ten Midview Middle School Medical Detectives students and nine Midview High School Biomedical Sciences students recently participated in the Cleveland STEM Goes Red for Girls event, sponsored by the American Heart Association. This event offered female students a unique opportunity to explore their potential to create meaningful change in the world through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
Hosted at the Great Lakes Science Center, the event connected seventh to ninth-graders with some of Greater Cleveland’s top STEM companies. Attendees participated in a hands-on exploration expo, speed mentoring sessions, and success sessions like “Engineering Your Success” from Parker Hannifin and “Discovery Heart” by University Hospitals. Through the Midview High School Powder Puff Game, the Midview Compass Committee’s Trunk or Treat, and Midview East’s Food Drive, we raised $600 and collected nearly 2,500 food items for Our Lady Queen of Peace and North Eaton Christian Church to support families and students in need! Thank you to everyone who supported these efforts with your generous contributions.
Thanks to our friends from the Eaton Township Fire Department, our North and West Elementary students learned several valuable lessons regarding fire safety, including:
Ms. Rogerson's third-grade class demonstrated their creativity and strong writing skills during a persuasive writing unit. Students were challenged to design a haunted house and craft a compelling sale pitch for it, paying close attention to details that brought their houses to life and interested potential buyers. Houses included features like furniture made out of spider webs, a pool filled with Halloween candy, and a fridge stocked with spooky treats.
Thanks to a generous donation from R & M Fence, our North and West students have enjoyed a fall favorite tradition in their art classes - decorating pumpkins! Our students let their creativity shine by using pipe cleaners and paint pens to decorate over 600 mini pumpkins.
Middle School students in Mrs. Manning's PLTW Computer Science class are learning basic computer programming and skills with the Micro:bit. They are currently using different inputs and techniques to start their programs and are working with flex sensors (detects flexing or bending in one direction), photocells (detects the amount of light), and pressure sensors (detects pressure and converts it into an electrical signal).
Yesterday, Midview Middle School held their first PBIS Assembly to celebrate students' work in being Ready, Responsible, and Respectful in the first quarter. Students and staff faced off in fun "Minute to Win It" challenges, volleyball, and games such as musical cones.
While learning about ecosystems, sixth-grade students in Mrs. Peterson's Science classes used a computer simulation to investigate how populations of organisms can change over time. For example, when they removed all the deer from their virtual forest, the populations of trees and mushrooms increased over the years. They discussed the role of organisms and the reasons for the change. This was also a great review of ecosystem vocabulary and reinforced math skills through the interpretation of line graphs and pictographs.
Mrs. Kaiser's class embarked on a sweet scientific adventure with candy corn, exploring physical science and states of matter. They conducted a dissolution experiment, predicting how candy corn would react in various liquids, and then deepened their learning by researching candy corn production and engaging in hands-on math exercises.
