Treaty Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that Killam Public School is on Treaty 6 territory - the ancestral and traditional land of many Indigenous groups. We are grateful for the animals, the water and the forests that provide us with many resources we use each day. We are thankful for the diverse opportunities that this land offers. We respect the land in which we gather on today.

Happy New Year KPS Families
Dear KPS Families,
Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, we are filled with excitement and optimism for the opportunities that lie ahead. This is a time for fresh beginnings, renewed goals, and strengthened connections within our school community. The first two weeks of school this year have flown by and students are engaged in learning.
One of the key foundations of student success is consistent attendance. When students attend school regularly, they not only build better habits for their future but also engage more deeply with learning and their peers. We ask for your partnership in ensuring that your child is present and ready to thrive every day. Together, we can support our students in achieving their best.
We also encourage you to take an active role in our school community. Whether through parent council, volunteering, attending events, or connecting with teachers and staff, your involvement makes a difference. Let’s work hand in hand to create a supportive environment where every student finds success.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Staff Spotlight
My name is Keely Nelson and my husband, Steve, and I farm southeast of Camrose. We have three children; Alyssa (20), Hayden (17) and Ella (12).
This is my third year as Principal at Killam Public School. This year, I teach PE K - 5 and junior high options and library. While most of my career has been in various roles in Battle River School Division, I have also taught at an International School in Malaysia and in Golden Hills School Division near Calgary.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling and reading.
Student Safety Before and After School
There has been an increase in drop offs in the bus lane. Please note that to keep all students safe, if a bus is in the bus lane, loading or unloading, any vehicle that enters the bus lane is required to wait until the bus is loaded/unloaded and leaves the bus lane. For the safety of all students, vehicles should not be in the bus lane during bus times. Please note that bus times may vary due to weather and road conditions.
Did you know that crossing at crosswalks teaches your child valuable skills and helps keep them safe? There is a crosswalk on either side of the bus lane. Using the crosswalk increases pedestrian visibility and predictability for drivers, resulting in less potential for accidents. Please remind your child to cross at the crosswalk.
How to find Student Verification Forms
Families who have not yet completed their verification forms received an email recently. To complete your verification forms you will need to go into PowerSchool on a web browser (not the app). On the left hand side, there is a menu. In that menu, closer to the bottom, there is a link to “School Engage”. Click on that link. Once in School Engage, click on “students” on the left hand menu and a list of your students will be available. Click on a student’s name and on the right hand side, there is a menu that will have “Student Enrollment and Verification”. Fill out the form and make the necessary changes before you submit. If you have any questions, please contact the office and Mrs. Brodie will be happy to help you.
