CMAS Parent Letter
March 7th, 2024
Dear Edmondson families,
Coming in April, we will conduct the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) state assessments. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be assessed on progress towards meeting the Colorado Academic Standards in English Language Arts and Math. Additionally, our 5th graders will be assessed in Science.
3rd, 4th, 5th ELA &Math will be April 9th-15th (every morning and both morning and afternoon on Tuesday 4/9)
5th Science will be April 16th (AM and PM) & April 18th (PM)
In addition to the valuable information you receive from these state assessments about how your student is progressing towards the Colorado Academic Standards at their grade level, this information is used by teachers and administrators during the beginning of the next school year to plan instructional programming that will best meet your student’s academic needs. This data also informs the development of programs and systems to meet the needs of students across the buildings.
To allow for your student’s best results, please schedule appointments before or after your student’s testing window, allowing your student to have their best attendance and opportunity to complete these assessments. We do understand that some absences are unavoidable; in this case, please contact your child’s teacher or the front office so that we can plan accordingly.
The Colorado Department of Education has produced the following information detailing the value and importance of State Testing: Role of State Assessments
You can find a general schedule for these assessments on the Thompson School District, HERE. For additional information, visit our FAQs about State Assessments on our district website, TSD.org.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding CMAS testing this year.
Thank You,
John Berg
