Happy Holidays!
December can be a stressful month, especially for high school students. Here are some ways to reduce stress, relax and enjoy this beautiful time of the year.
Don’t Procrastinate
Putting things off until the last moment increases stress. Being organized and completing projects before they are due eliminates unnecessary anxiety.
Get Enough Sleep
Studies show that sleep deprivation and daytime sleepiness are linked to impaired mood, higher risk for car accidents, lower grades and academic failure.
Exercise Regularly
Research suggests that students who participate in regular physical exercise report lower levels of perceived stress. Exercise can help you with mental and physical health.
Take Calming Breaths
Breathing exercises are a great way to cope with moments of stress. Try box breathing; inhaling for a count of four, holding the air in your lungs for a count of four, exhaling for a count of four, hold your lungs empty for a count of four and repeat.
Listen to Music
Listening to upbeat or relaxing music can relieve stress and help you remain calm.
Eat a Healthy Diet and Stay Hydrated
Eating healthy and drinking enough water are easy ways to promote a healthy lifestyle and combat stress.
Spend Time with Uplifting People
Being with people who bring you joy is good for the soul. Avoid people who consistently bring you down and create drama.
Positive Self-Talk
Whether you tell yourself you can or you can’t, you’re right! Talk to yourself with the same grace you give your friends!
Wishing you the best!
