PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. It was great seeing many of you in the building for conferences. This year, we had 97% of families meeting to discuss their student's progress. That's very impressive! It shows how committed parents are to their child's education, and what a great partnership there is between home and school.
December has arrived and will pass very quickly. A few reminders: students go outside each day for thirty minutes. Please make sure that your child has appropriate outdoor gear for cold weather. If you or you know of someone who needs a coat, boots, snow pants, hat, and mittens, please contact Mrs. McCartney, tmccartney@rsu1.org and she will be happy to help.
REMEMBER the PTA Scholarship Craft Fair is THIS Saturday beginning at 9AM. I am very much looking forward to the return of this great event. There are many of our favorite crafters returning, and some new faces as well. Also, this year there have been some new additions to the lunch menu that I know you will enjoy. Hope to see you there!
FIFTH GRADE FIELD TRIP TO GMRI
Please drop your student off at PES by 8AM tomorrow, to depart on their field trip to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. The GMRI bus leaves promptly at 8:15; anyone who misses the bus will have work to do as they stay at school. The class should return from the trip around 12:30.
REMINDERS
If you are donating a homemade pie for the December 3rd Scholarship Craft Fair, pies may be dropped off in the office tomorrow, December 2nd. Students who donate pies will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a fantastic winter themed prize!
Although the newsletter is now going home electronically, please continue to send the Thursday folders back on Friday so non-electronic items (pictures, flyers, books, etc.) can still be sent home.
SNOW DAY INFO
Is it too early for a reminder? In Maine, you never know...On days where there is inclement winter weather and roads are not safe, schools may have a delayed start, or the school building will be closed for the day.
In addition to an automated phone call to each household, notice will be made on TV Channels 6, 8 and 13 beginning at 5:30am. Remember that the district as a group is listed under "RSU1," not individual towns or schools.
Visit our website; if there is a cancellation, it will be the first thing displayed.
Because of their short school days, any time there is a 2-hour delay for K -12 students, there will be no Pre-K that day.
Please be sure the school has your correct phone number, so that you will receive all notifications.
PHIPPSBURG REC NEWS
PTA Scholarship Holiday Craft Fair
Saturday, December 3rd, 9AM-1PM, please join the Phippsburg PTA in welcoming back the Scholarship Holiday Craft Fair! For more information, email phippsburgpta@gmail.com.
FREE Gingerbread House Decorating and Pizza Night
Friday, December 9th, 6-7PM in the PES gym, we will be decorating gingerbread houses and snacking on pizza. Additional decorations will be available. YOU MUST SIGN UP BY DECEMBER 1ST by contacting Cathy Thomas at 207-522-3105 to sign up.
Letters to Santa
Santa always watches the Selectmen's meetings during the month of December to see if they are being naughty or nice. Our Selectmen want to be on Santa's nice list, so they thought it would be fun to read letters from the Town's children. Letters to Santa can be mailed to or dropped off at Phippsburg Town Hall, 1042 Main Rd. Tune in to the Phippsburg local cable channel on Wednesday evenings, starting at 5PM, to hear what the Phippsburg children have added to their Christmas wish lists.
