What's Happening in Elective Classes
Orchestra
6th, 7th and 8th grade orchestras are preparing musical selections for KMEA assessment on March 17th and 18th. They will be performing for judges at the UK Singletary Center and receive a rating as an ensemble based on their performance of their prepared pieces as well as sight-reading. General music class is learning to read and count rhythms while playing bucket drums. Their next unit will cover note reading and playing melodic instruments.
AVID
6th & 7th grade AVID are working on a college and career unit. 6th graders are taking an interest survey to find career choices that align with their personality traits, then researching different colleges that offer a pathway to those careers. 7th graders are researching different types of colleges (public, private, liberal arts, technical college, HBCUs, etc.) then picking a type that they feel would best suit their educational needs. After receiving an estimate of their SAT score based on MAP data, students will pick and research a match, reach, and safety school within their type of college that has the major they are most interested in.
Health
6th Grade - Health students are learning about the Health triangle and Nutrition. We are learning to identify and describe why eating healthy is important to ensure we are getting the various nutrients our bodies need. Teaching students to advocate for their own personal health and the health of peers/the people around them.
7th GradeβMedical Detective students are learning about the skeletal and muscular systems. We are learning not only why it is important for daily activities but also to maintain posture and protect our vital organs. Teaching students that the skeletal system is very complex and that we need to take care of our bodies.

Congratulations Math Team!π
14 competitors arrive at UK Chem Physics building and worked problems for three hours...they did very well in their competition. Our top contender this year goes to Matthias Myrup who came away with a Medal and recognition.
A celebration is planned for this week to celebrate a season of work and to plan for next year. During the end of the year awards days there will be certificates for our Mathletes.
Thank you, parents, for sharing your student and your faithfulness in delivering and picking them up. We appreciate you. Remember to send copies of your photos from this year's competitions!
