For the 2014-2015 Reflections program, students reflected on how “The World Would Be a Better Place If…” Out of the 1,023 entries received by Texas PTA, 30 students will be advancing to the national level for their outstanding work!

Big Art Day is an art happening to raise awareness of art education and art as a creative force in our communities on a BIG statewide scale. It is an attempt by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) to engage all art educators, their students and communities in a single day art event.

This year, Big Art Day was Thursday, March 5, 2015. Art was celebrated at Comal ISD campuses through displays of student works and hands on participation in creating artwork.

Pictures below are from the art displayed at HLES for their open house on Big Art Day. The art educator at HLES is Carla Shipley.

UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest Results:

* 128 Student Participants from CHS Band in UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest

* 98 1st Division UIL Medals Earned (64 1st Division Solo Medals and 34 1st Division Ensemble Medals)

* 39 CHS Band Students Advance to UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest!!!

Cindy (Hsin) Huang participated in the UIL Piano Solo Competition at Steele HS, where she earned a first division medal with a Class One solo. She has now qualified to attend the State UIL Solo and Ensemble contest in Austin in May. Cindy is a student in the CHS Accelerated / Advanced Piano class.

Shareen Vader is the Choral Director and Piano Instructor at Canyon High School.

Canyon "A" and "B" Winter Guards both won 1st place in their divisions. The CHS "B" guard is continuing to place above "varsity" color guards from competing schools. CHS will host the TECA State Winter Guard Championships on Saturday, 3/28, where both Canyon winter guards will participate.

Smithson Valley’s “Ranger Regiment” Indoor Percussion program placed 1st in Scholastic Marching AA at the Madison HS “Festival of Colors” TECA (Texas Educational Colorguard Association) contest this past Saturday, February 21st. This is the second competition of the season and so far we have a 2nd and 1st place finish in our division!

The Aristocats were named Grand Champions of the ENTIRE competition in San Marcos!

Arts in Action provides a forum for parents and community members to discuss goals for our district fine arts programs.

Our goal is to maintain current programs, manage growth, expand offerings, and foster community support to provide our fine arts students the resources they need to be successful. We would love to have you join us!

STANDING OVATIONS THIS WEEK GO OUT TO:

The choir students from CHS and SVMS and the band students from MVMS and CLHS who performed at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. Thank you to Gwen Graham, Jennifer Rivera, Bobby Delong, Eduardo Gonzales, Mark Watley and Joseph DeSantis and their students for excellent stage performances and solid sight-reading. You represented Comal ISD with confidence and class!
