Religious Life of the School
Fr Peter celebrated Mass for our Year 6s on Monday evening. At this Mass, we prayed for our school community, past and present. We prayed especially for the successful transition of our Year 6s who are leaving us today and will begin the secondary stage of their education in September. We wish them all well. Most of them have been with us since Nursery or Reception and we are very sad to see them go. They have had a busy time over the last few months preparing for their end of year tests. After SATs, the boys and girls in year 6 participated in their Relationships Conference. They also enjoyed their school journey in Osmington Bay where the sun shone along with the children.
Last Thursday they performed their last show, ‘Olivia’ at St Charles and brought the house down!
Thank you to an outstanding cast who can be very proud of their end of year show and whose parents were bursting with pride in the audience.
Thanks also to Mr Fowle and Ms Gordon whose enthusiasm and dedication helped make this a show to remember.

Gospel: Feeding the 5,000 (John 6:1-15)
Using the Wednesday Word link below, read this Sunday’s Gospel
and reflect on the questions below with your family.
You will have an opportunity to discuss them again next week in School.
- Why do you think Jesus wanted to test Philip?
- How did Jesus manage to feed all the people?
- How do you think the boy felt before and after Jesus took his food?
- What message can we get from this account and how can we be more like the boy today? Jesus
Staffing
Today we say goodbye to some members of staff; Mr Fowle our year 6 teacher who will be working on secondment at St Mary's, Mrs Desmond our year 2 teacher and our finance officer Bachar who have been at St Charles for a number of years. They have held key roles and we will miss them. We wish them well and ask them to keep in touch.
Breakfast Club and Tea-Time Club
Breakfast Club and Tea Time Club for September will be available for you to book via Weduc from 25th August.
Please book early to ensure you get a place for your child/ren.
Breakfast club runs from 8am and will cost £4 per child, per day.
At the moment, we offer Teatime Club from 3.15pm to 5.30pm at St Mary’s. In the Autumn term, wraparound care will be changing and will be delivered by a new provider until 6pm in the evening. There will be more information and a chance to meet the new provider in September before the new service is launched. Until that time, we are pleased to confirm that Teatime Club will continue as normal, with the first day being 4th September 2024. Please book in the usual way. Thank you to all the staff who have led this service this year.
Attendance
Congratulations to everybody on supporting us to achieve 93.0% attendance this year. Hopefully, we will be back to normal next year when we can strive for 96.5%.
Holiday During Term Time
This academic year, we have received quite a lot of leave request from parents asking to take their children out of school during term time. May I remind you that the school does not give permission for holidays in term time. If you take your child/ren out of school for a holiday during term time, they will be referred to the Local Authority if necessary.
The Department for Education expects parents/carers to organise holidays outside of the school term dates. Your child/ren’s learning will suffer by taking them out of school and it may result in disruptions to the learning of others.
We have already referred some families to the local authority who will issue a penalty notice.
Uniform
As you know, uniform is sold online via Weduc therefore you will be able to purchase your child’s uniform over the summer holidays while stock lasts. We advise parents to only order 2 jumpers /cardigans / sweatshirts per child at this time.
You will be able to collect all your paid items, purchased before the 1st September, on Tuesday 3rd September. Items purchased on or after the 1st September should be collected after 2 working days from the day of purchase.
We also advise parents to check their children’s old uniform size in order to order the correct size.
Contacts
It is a requirement that the school has a minimum of 2 emergency telephone contact numbers for your child.
We need to be able to contact you at all times.
Sophie endeavours to update our data with your details termly. This is essential for the wellbeing of your children and we need your help to ensure that you are contactable at all times.
Statutory Outcomes 2024
We are delighted to report the wonderful outcomes for our pupils in this year’s statutory tests and assessments. These results are the culmination of the hard work of the whole school: teachers, support staff, parents and, of course, the pupils! Congratulations to all the children. Many thanks to the teachers and support staff for their dedication and hard work supporting these wonderful outcomes and to parents for your support.

Key Stage 2
Once again this year, our results at KS2 are well above the national average and above the average for Kensington and Chelsea. This is a huge achievement and very well deserved.
The scaled score range runs from 80 to 120 for Key Stage 2. Pupils who achieve a scaled score of 100 are judged to have met the expected standard for the Key Stage. A scaled score of 110 or more indicates that a pupil has achieved the higher standard or greater depth. As you can see from our average scaled scores, all our pupils have performed incredibly well and reached their potential. Congratulations to all.

Goodbye
Finally, as I leave St Charles today, I would like to thank you all for everything over the last number of years. I have been so lucky to have had the privilege to work with your exceptional children who bring a smile to my face every day.
Thank you to you, their parents, for putting your trust in us so that we can work together to achieve great things.
It is working closely as a team that we can offer our children the education they deserve in a warm, caring and supportive environment.
Thank you also for the good wishes and very many presents I have received over the last few weeks. I am so very touched by your amazing generosity.
May I take this opportunity to wish everyone in the St Charles community a relaxing and restorative holiday and I know Mrs Hampton, our new Executive Headteacher is looking forward to welcoming you all back to school in September.
International Summer Fair
We would like to extend our thanks to everyone for making the summer fair a hug sucess. Your generous donations and dedicated volunteering were invaluable. A special thank you to the past PFA for their incredible contributions and guidance. The new PFA looks forward to building on this wonderful foundation.

Congratulations to our top scorers in the times-table competition London Rocks! Excellent effort!
Handwriting In Reception
We are great writers in Reception. We use our phonics to help us. Look at our beautiful handwriting!
5M Science Topic
5M have been really enjoying their science unit about The Earth and Space. We have been doing lots of investigating and exploring. We even used Oreo’s to learn about the different phases of the moon (and we got to eat them after!)
4H Sound Topic
4H have been really enjoying their new science topic about Sound. We looked at sound waves and even made our own jelly baby sound wave machine to show how sound waves move.
2D Science Topic
Continuing with science, 2D have been learning about different habitats. We made our own microhabitats using plastic bottles, leaves, twigs, bark, grass and pine cones. We have placed them in the school garden and will monitor them to see if any creatures have taken up residence. Watch this space!
Year 6 Into University
Year 6 enjoyed taking part in their IntoUniversity Transition Workshop as they prepare for their move to secondary school. They completed activities around expectations at secondary school, timetables, school clubs and much more!
4H to Pizza Express
4H had a great morning out at PizzaExpress , We all had the chance to knead the dough and top our pizzas with passata and mozzarella. We took them back to school and enjoyed them for lunch.
Andy Warhol Screen Prints
5M have been very busy making prints over the last couple of weeks. We have been studying Andy Warhol, who was very famous for his screen prints. We really enjoyed making our stencils, printing each layer with the screen print and experimenting with different designs.
E-Safety
Our community development coordinator, Tom, came to speak to year 5 about social media & cyber bullying. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of social media and Tom gave us some tips on what we can do if we experience any peer pressure or online abuse.
Book Project
We love books! Thank you to the Book Project for kindly donating these wonderful books to all of the children at St Charles! We have some VERY HAPPY readers!!
Reception Trip To Pizza Express
