On Wednesday, September 18th, students from Schroeder and Thomas’s Black and Brown Student Unions (BBSU) attended the 5th Annual Interrupt Racism Summit. Upon arrival, the students were asked to stand as the crowd applauded and acknowledged the importance of youth voice in the work of racial equality and social justice initiatives. In a breakout session, students connected and collaborated with other school districts to discuss topics like hip hop and its pivotal role in the African American story, music as an expression of feelings, and hip hop as the heart of resistance and liberation.

The Interrupting Racism Summit hosted by the Urban League was an inspiring event that brought Webster Thomas and Schroeder’s Black and Brown Student Unions together and encouraged them to continue on with equity and justice initiatives. Students left with an understanding of how to use their voice to make change and an increased sense of belonging and community. We are the Black and Brown Student Union. We are One Webster.

Webster Marching Band's recent achievements:

On September 14th, they competed in the Bands of America Toledo, Ohio regional and proudly placed 3rd in Class AAAA. Though they did not make finals, they did attend the finals performance which proved to be an inspiration to all!

On September 21st, they earned first place in Large School 2 at Medina HS with a score of 77.6, beating the rest of the class at the competition and across the state by 1.25 points! WOW!

Next weekend, they will be competing at West Genesee, and I am confident they will continue to showcase their hard work and dedication. This band is truly something- we are so proud!

Finally, we will be hosting ELEVEN bands from across the state on Saturday, October 5th, at Schroeder Stadium. Gates will open at 5 PM, and the show will start at 6 PM, rain or shine! We have free tickets available for WCSD music staff who would like to come and support our students. Let me know how many tix you need, and I will make sure you receive them via interschool mail.
