Principal's Message
Greetings,
Happy New Year Titan Family! I hope that you all were able to enjoy some quality time with your families over the break. We returned to school on Tuesday and have had quite a busy week here at Tuscarora High School. Students auditioned for Shrek the Musical, athletic coemptions continued, and our dancers headed to Goucher today for All State Dance. In addition, we began grade level meetings with students to begin the registration process for the 2024 – 2025 school year. We met with our current sophomores and juniors this past Wednesday and we will meet with our current freshmen next Wednesday. I highly encourage families to check out your student’s grade level course in Schoology to review the numerous resources that can assist students in selecting their courses for next year. Each student’s path to graduation looks a little different, so if you have questions, please reach out to your student’s counselor or administrator. We would love to help you plan!
Next week is the final week of term two and our first semester. Students will begin four new courses on Thursday, January 18. I encourage families to review student progress in their current courses to ensure that they finish the semester strong and make a plan for a strong start to second semester.
As I’ve mentioned before, we have an increasing number of students arriving late to school. This is problematic as students are missing vital instructional time and are interrupting the learning of other students as they enter class late. Beginning with second semester, we will begin writing passes and tracking student tardiness beginning at 7:30. As students accumulate tardies, they will receive a lunch detention for their 4th & 5th tardies to school and we will progress to after school detention for 6 or more tardies. I very much appreciate everyone’s effort in getting students to school on time. I know that mornings are hard and high school begins very early.
Finally, I want to thank you all for your patience and understanding during yesterday’s investigation. As a parent myself, I know that uncertainty is scary. Please know that we at Tuscarora High School, an I personally, take every threat to the safety of our students and staff seriously. We will always investigate and issue consequences to the fullest extent possible. If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to view this video regarding school threats. I appreciate your support as we continue to work together to ensure that our school remains a safe and productive place for learning.
I wish you all a lovely weekend. Please stay safe with the impending weather tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Lisa Smith
