Reminder: On page 14 of the Hawk Handbook for Students & Families outside food is addressed in these two items:

1. Outside meals are not permitted to be delivered to students via delivery services (Postmates, Grubhub, Doordash, Direct ordering from restaurants)

2. Students may not bring food for classmates or to share unless it is related to school coursework and previously approved in advance with the teacher or appropriate school staff.

Please confirm that your student has a charger for the issued FCPS Chromebook. Many students misplaced their chargers and the daily search for one to borrow from a classmate is impacting learning in all class periods. If your child no longer has a charger, please notify John.Czapski.org [UMS Technology Specialist], so that he may get a replacement charger to your child and maximum learning and instruction may resume for all students.

This holiday season we are hoping to partner with families to help our students in need through our annual UMS Giving Tree. The Giving Tree is located in the UMS front office and each tag on the tree has a gift for one of our UMS students and/or their siblings. If you are able, please stop by UMS to pick up a tag (or two!) and purchase a gift for a family in need this holiday season. If you would like to participate:

1. Stop by UMS to pick a gift tag(s) off the tree
2. Sign up for that gift on the clipboard
3. Happy Shopping!
4. Return the gift(s) wrapped with the tags attached to the UMS Front office no later than Monday, December 16th.

Students that do not earn more than 1 step or earn a referral from Monday, December 16 – Friday, December 20, are ELIGIBLE to participate fully in the Friday Event.

Those that do earn more than 1 step or a referral, will be spend a minimum of 30 minutes in our assigned reflection room(s).

Hearing and Vision Screening will take place at UMS on December 20th, 2024 for 8th grade and new enterers to the Maryland public school system. Rescreens are scheduled for January 14, 2025. Parents/guardians who have an objection to this screening must submit a written request for their child to be exempt, to the health room by December 13, 2024.

Maryland State Law mandates these screenings.

If your child wears glasses or contacts, please be sure they have them on the screening days.

Hello Urbana Families and Community Members,

My name is Mr. Conrad, and I am the Band Director at Urbana Middle School. I’m excited to share that we have an upcoming Mattress Fundraiser on Saturday, January 11th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the UMS Cafeteria. The cafeteria will be transformed into a large mattress showroom, where you can browse and purchase top-name brands like Purple, Therapedic, and Helix at significantly discounted rates. All proceeds will directly benefit our student musicians in the largest secondary band program in Frederick County! All mattresses are made to order and will be delivered to your home within approximately two weeks. For more details, please check out this video invitation.
