Please remember to bring your students' books, math manipulatives, and any other supplies provided by their teacher to Carman Trails on Monday, May 24th any time between 7:45 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
If possible, please separate library books from other classroom books. Parents should have received an email from their child's teacher regarding the supply drop-off. Also, we ask that you please use the supply bags provided at prior pick-ups and label the bag with your student's name when you return the supplies and books.
Chromebooks will need to be returned on Friday, June 4th - please remember to bring the charger with the Chromebook. You may also bring any other supplies back at that time as well.
Last Day of School Schedule
Parkway Virtual Campus will dismiss at 12:35 p.m. on the last day of school, Thursday, June 3rd. The schedule will remain the same. Therefore, students and teachers will eat lunch from 11:00-12:00 p.m. just as they would on a normal day.
10,000 Pencils Service Learning Experience
Dear Carman Families:
We are pleased to be hosting a Day of Service at Carman Trails. In our renewal phase for School of Character, we received feedback wondering if a day of service could be a possibility at Carman. Last year, we offered the opportunity for families to donate any new or used school supplies on the last day of school to 10,000 Pencils, a local non-profit organization that helps communities who would normally not have school supplies. This year, we are able to make the experience more meaningful for our students and the recipients.
We will begin collecting supplies now through May 30th. On June 1st, in-person students will sort, bag, and box the supplies for pick up. Our fifth grade students will help lead this project. The easiest way for in-person students to participate is to donate their end-of-year school supplies. We hope you will consider allowing your child to donate their supplies.
Here is a little information about 10,000 Pencils. In addition, you can watch this short video clip about the great work that has happened due to the generosity of students in our surrounding communities.
Here are the documents that will be sent to families to explain how to get involved. Attached you will find a flyer and permission slip for families to access.
We are excited to be able to host this Service Learning Experience -- our Carman Trails families are always so very generous!
Thank you for your help and support,
Allison Love

MR. FOUSHEE'S ADVENTURE CLUB NEWS - MAY 23rd, 2021
Drawing on Foil
We've Got A Sprout Already!
Silly String at Mr. Foushee!
Silly Fun with Paint and Bubbles
Our month of fun continued this week with even more exciting projects. The kids got to try drawing on aluminum foil to make some cool metallic pictures and learned how to fold origami bookmarks. They also got to try out "spray paint" (watercolor in a spray bottle). And make bubble wands they got to use outside. And on another fun note, the kids who got closest to the high and low temperatures from our competition last month, plus our lucky fifth graders, got to silly string Mr. Foushee and some other staff. And check out our first sprout in our garden! What new fun activities will next week hold?

ASIAN AND PACIFIC ISLAND AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
May marks the celebration of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month which will be celebrated in various ways throughout the month of May 2021. Like most commemorative months, Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month originated with Congress in 1977 to celebrate this great group of Americans who have contributed so much to the United States. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first people of Japanese descent to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. However, we must not forget that the majority of the workers who laid the tracks for the railroad were Chinese immigrants.
Please remember to help celebrate these wonderful cultures by recognizing the history, culture and achievements of all Asian Americans in the United States. You can also watch some of the documentaries that will be showing throughout the month on various television and cable stations.
Become curious about the cultures and the history as you greet students, parents and staff who identify as Asian Pacific Islander South Asian Americans (APISAA)
