2024-2025 Blattman Elementary's Mission and Vision
Our Mission: Every day, every student will grow through learning experiences as critical thinkers and leaders.
Our Vision: Engage, educate and empower ALL students
Black Bear Families,
I hope this bulletin finds you well and that you had a wonderful week. We have an exciting week ahead, filled with learning opportunities and special events. Below is a brief recap of this week and some important updates and reminders for the upcoming days.
We had a cold four days of school, but were still learning and growing. Despite the chilly weather, our students remained engaged and excited about their lessons. Our third graders had the wonderful opportunity to attend Paint to the Music at Madison High School for a musical performance, where they experienced live theatre and learned about the elements of musical storytelling. Thank you Mrs. Alfaro for wonderful opportunity for our 3rd graders.
Kinder students enjoyed a trip to the Magic Theatre to watch a lively and engaging performance of Elephant and Piggie. The excitement on their faces showed how much they loved the show!
This past week, our students also celebrated Western Day, and it was great to see so many of them dressed up in their best western attire, embracing the spirit of the event.
Our second graders impressed us all with their creativity this week as they showcased their interpretations of their favorite idioms through one of a kind costumes they helped create. It was a fun and educational experience that helped them understand figurative language in an interactive way. We all had fun trying to guess the correct idiom all day long! Fantastic idea 2nd grade!
Next week, we kick off our much-anticipated APEX fundraiser! We will be sending out information next week showing what we are working towards for our Blattman students, families and staff. Last year, thanks to the generous support from our community, we were able to provide each classroom teacher with a dry-erase white kidney table that allows teachers and students to use together for small group instruction. With the remaining balance we were able to buy four chairs for visitors and students waiting to see Nurse Roxy in the front office.. This year, we are aiming even higher to continue enhancing our students' learning environments, safety and security on campus and staff wellness . Your support makes a huge difference, and we truly appreciate it!
On Monday, our talented Blattman athletes will be proudly representing us at the NISD Special Education Track and & Field Competition at Gustafson Stadium for a special event. To send them off with encouragement and school spirit, we will be hosting a clap-out that morning at 9:15 AM as they proceed to board the school bus. We invite our families to join us in the rotunda to cheer them on and wish them luck. If you purchased a Viva Blattman t-shirt (see image above), we encourage you to wear it in support of our Black Bears as they participate in this annual event. Don’t forget to bring posters or signs to help boost their confidence and excitement! We are incredibly proud of their dedication and hard work. Please consider attending the event that day if you can. Every time I have gone, I am in awe of their resilience and joy that fills not only each athlete, but my heart as well. I admire and respect each and every individual that plays a such an intricate part. You got this Black Bears!!
As always, we appreciate your partnership in making Blattman a great place for our students to learn and grow.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

- Raptor system will continue to be used. ID must be presented at all times. If you plan on having lunch or have a parent teacher conference, please allow time to get scanned into our system.
- Badges must be visible and worn at ALL times - staff and guests.
- Perimeter of the building doors will be checked by campus staff after 7:45 am to ensure all doors are looked from the outside. The first front door to access the security lobby will only be open.
- We will ramp up our pre-registration process and scanning in process during our performances and events during the school day.
- We will be strictly asking visitors to follow our "One way in; One way out" policy and that is through the main doors to account for people entering and leaving our building. This ensures that doors aren't accidently left open or not locked. This also applies to students, who are only to be released and checked out through the front office, using our system. Teachers do not release students during the typical school day.
- External doors that flow out into parking lots etc., will not be allowed to be used as a general entrance or exit during the school day. This reinforces our "One way in; One way out" of our campus.
- Students will be accounted for through our iDismiss system at dismissal time to ensure all students are accounted for and kept safe until they are returned to your care.
- Additional safety and security drills will continue to be a part of our preparation plans and we will get feedback from field experts to continuously improve our process.
- Safety and security training for all staff campus on the protocols and procedures to keep students safe and building secure.
- Continued partnership with NISD PD and Shavano PD/FD to enhance a positive presence and visibility.
Volunteer Background Checks
We love having parent volunteers and helpers volunteer at campus events and helpers to prepare projects for our students. Each year any individual who is interested in volunteering, participating in field trips, chaperoning or helping out at an event will need to fill out the volunteer background check form. These forms must be completed each year.
Please do not click on the "Update" button, but use the link provided to fully complete the forms: Here's the direct link: https://hrvolunteer.nisd.net/TempMod.nsf?Open
As you may know, last year we experienced a long delay on clearances from our third-party vendor. By submitting checks early, volunteers can avoid the usual beginning of year delays and any additional delays. Please take care of this now if there is any possibility that you may be on campus for extended periods of time, or participate in any of campus events that are planned for this year.
