West Point El. Parent Update
Week of January 12, 2025
Dear West Point Families,
We hope you enjoyed the winter weekend! We have a lot of events coming up over the next couple of months. Please look at the "Upcoming Dates" section below so you can update your calendars. With all the activities and information, our most important priorities are for students to be at school each day and to read at home each night. We want our students to love learning in a safe and inclusive environment. If your student is struggling, please reach out to your student's teacher so they can work with you to create a plan for your student to be happy and successful.
Here are four important things to know for the coming week.
- The Parent Conference Scheduler is now open on your myDSD account. It will be open through Wednesday, January 22. Please schedule an appointment with your child's teacher for our January 29-30 conferences. Thank you!
- Community Council will meet this Wednesday, January 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room.
- Kindergarten Priority Registration is now open through Friday, February 28. See below for more information.
- Yearbooks can be ordered on myDSD for $18 through March 31. After that date, it will be first come first served for $25 if we have any extras.
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Administrative Intern, West Point Elementary

Kindergarten Priority Registration
Kindergarten Priority Registration for the 2025-26 school year is now underway through Feb. 28 in the Davis School District. Both full-day and half-day options are available. Please read the attached letter to incoming kindergarten parents. We would appreciate if you could let neighbors with incoming kindergarten students know that we are registering students now for next year. Registration packets are in the office and on our website. Thank you!
West Point Elementary Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures
As we start the new year, we are asking everyone to review the following procedures for our morning drop off and afternoon pick up lane.
Please do not stop your car on the crosswalk. It is there to help students and parents cross safely.
Please cross at the crosswalk. Crossing in the parking lot encourages students to run out into the parking lot, and passing cars might not see them. On snowy days, the crosswalk is cleared along with the sidewalks so that students and parents can cross safely.
Always pull all the way forward in the drop off/pick up lane, and encourage your students to get out quickly. This courtesy helps the line of cars move quickly, efficiently, and safely. If you would like to drop off your student closer to the front of the school, please park, get out, and walk your student to their area.
Do not go around vehicles that are dropping off or picking up students, unless the crossing guard waves you to do so (which occasionally happens at the end of the day.) Please wait in line to drop off your student.
CoGAT Testing for 6th Grade Students
6th grade students who have signed up for CoGAT testing should have received an email on Friday. This email contains testing and busing information for Tuesday, January 28. If you did not receive an email, it is most likely because the registration form wasn't filled out. You can always call the school office to verify. The busing and test schedules have been completed for testing on Tuesday, January 28. You can still sign your student up for make-up testing on February 6 using the link below. Parents will be responsible for driving their students to the district offices that day. As a reminder, CoGAT testing is given to determine math placement in advanced math classes in junior high next year
4th-6th Grade Spelling Bee
We are buzzing with excitement because the Spelling Bee is here again! Here are some important dates.
The Class Spelling Bees will happen in February 2024 during class time. Individual teachers will schedule the dates for their classroom Bees.
Grade-Level Spelling Bee will be Wednesday, February 19, in the gym during school hours. More information and times will be sent out after winter break.
West Point Elementary School Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at 4 PM in the gym – parents, friends, and family are welcome!
The North-End Semifinal will be in mid to late March, typically at Layton High School, with the grand finale on April 21, 2025, at Clearfield High School.
For any lingering questions or for some handy spelling bee tips and tricks, pop over to Mrs. Elcock's website: https://sites.google.com/dsdmail.net/wpedeep/spelling-bee.
Book Battle Books
Check out the list of books our 3rd-6th grade students are reading to prepare for this year's Battle of the Books! Be sure to ask them about the books they have been reading.
Experience the Magic
Magical Manners
This week's manner is to remember that "Fun Isn't Always the Point." We all like to have a good time, and some activities are meant to be fun such as going to an amusement park, a party, etc. However, some activities are meant to teach skills, clean and create order, keep you healthy, etc. We can still have a good attitude, find ways to make things more enjoyable, and learn to push through when doing activities where the main goal isn't just to have fun.

December and January's LETTERING Focus - I is for Inclusion
We have had great feedback this past week on our game of the week. This week's game is Capture the Flag. We hope you will encourage your students to give it a try. This is a great way for students to have fun playing, make new friends, and include everyone.
January Brag Tags
As we begin a new term, please help your students commit to earning their brag tags for January. Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.
