STAAR TIPS AND TRICKS!
Nervous for the STAAR test next week? Don’t quite know how to prepare? Don't worry, I’ve got you. Preparing for the test requires a strategic approach in order to be successful and accomplish your goals, which can be overwhelming for some students. Here are some tips and tricks to help get you ready for next week!
Before the test
Be sure that youprepared around 2 weeks in advance. You don't want to study at the last minute, as it only adds more stress. One of the best ways to prepare for the STAAR is to ensure that you understand the material and know what types of questions to expect. These can include multiple-choice, open-ended questions, or even essays. Preparing for these types of questions can help reduce test anxiety on the big day. Another way of preparing is to review with friends! Studying with a friend or group could help keep you on track and prevent major distractions. Personally, I find myself getting distracted very easily so something that I like to do is turn potential questions on the subject into a fun trivia game, which could be very helpful for those also who get bored easily. Self care is important! Make sure that you eat a healthy and filling breakfast and get plenty of rest the night before the test.
During the test
Read questions carefully: Make sure that you understand what they're asking you to answer or explain, be aware that some questions are meant to trick you. Use the process of elimination: If you know for a fact that one or more of the answers are obviously incorrect, cross them out to minimize options. In the Algebra STAAR, be sure that you are showing your work and writing out each equation, even if you feel like you know the answer, this will prevent miscalculations and give you a visual on where you messed up at. Use context clues; if you come across unfamiliar words in reading questions, use your dictionary provided on the test or look at the surrounding words to help develop an understanding. Most importantly, stay in a positive headspace!
Overall, just put in the effort, it matters more than perfection. Give this your all! Remember to breathe, take your time, and take a break when needed. Good luck to everyone and we hope that these tips will help you pass the 2025 STAAR.

PROM
Prom On A Budget
Prom night is one of the most special events during high school, but it doesn’talways have to cost a pretty penny. You can create a memorable experience by making your own accessories, thrift shopping for attire, or repurposing items instead of buying everything new. There’s no need to feel embarrassed about putting together a unique and original outfit.
Attire and Accessories
When it comes to attire and accessories, there are many low-cost resources you can explore. Rather than spending hundreds of dollars on a new tuxedo or dress, consider visiting a local thrift store or checking out the clearance racks at nearby shops. Another great option is to see if any family members have old prom outfits that you could borrow or repurpose; these outfits deserve to be worn again. For jewelry, you can easily ask friends and family to lend you items they’re willing to share. Alternatively, going without jewelry is perfectly fine as well. And for the most important accessory of all—the corsage—you don’t need to spend $50 on a wrist bouquet. Instead, visit a local dollar store and look for DIY tutorials on YouTube to make one for your prom date.
Food and Drinks
You definitely don't want to head to prom on an empty stomach. Consider hosting a potluck with friends or preparing your own meals to save money. While many prom groups opt for fancy restaurants before the dance, grabbing a quick meal from a fast food drive-thru can be just as satisfying and enjoyable. Everyone needs to eat if they want to dance the night away!
Transportation
Transportation is an important part of going to prom, but it doesn't have to be extravagant. If you don’t have access to a limo, don't worry. You can always ask friends to carpool, which allows everyone to spend more time together and create lasting memories. Alternatively, you might want to designate a driver from your group to ensure everyone stays safe while enjoying the special night. Every prom experience is unique; some may be positive and others less so. Ultimately, prom night is what you make it. Whether you plan ahead or go with the flow, you can still have an adventurous and memorable time. A budget-friendly prom can be just as enjoyable as one that costs hundreds of dollars, leaving you with cherished memories regardless of your spending.
