Pendle Hill Public School News
Term 3 Week 9
A Message From The Principal
Dear Parents/Carers,
We recently held the school public speaking competitions and the stage winners represented the school at the district semifinals. Congratulations to the students who represented their class and the school representatives who did a great job representing the school at the semifinals. The standard of speeches particularly impromptu speeches was very high making judging at all levels of the competition very difficult.
Congratulations to our newly elected P&C committee see below. The P&C allows parents to provide opinions and work together with the school to support children's education and a sense of school community. I would urge all parents to take the opportunity to participate in the P&C.

A reminder that mobile phones, smart watches or other internet enabled devices are not permitted at school. If your child needs a device to travel safely to and from school you must put this in writing and the device must be handed in at the school office at the beginning of the day and collected each afternoon.

Beading Group
Every Monday at lunchtime, students are invited to be creative and make their own bracelets and keychains with the weekly beading group.
We had a special delivery of brand new beads and all of the students were thrilled with the new selection. Many of the children have been making keychains, so some specific beads, tassels and key rings were purchased for them to make. The students are very creative and enjoy choosing and matching different styles and colours together.
It is also a wonderful way for children to chat and connect with each other in a relaxed environment, during breaktime.
Thank you to our students this week, who were very careful with the new beads. If you have any beads at home, that you no longer have a use for, we would love to use them in our weekly beading group. Please feel free to drop them at the office and mention they are for Mrs Hogan's beading group.

Preschool
In preschool we have been learning about bees and their importance in helping our planet. The children are learning that bees collect pollen and nectar from the flowers and take it back to their hive to make honey. Inside the hive there is a queen bee and lots of worker bees. Bees have wings and 6 legs.
Today the children followed the steps in the procedure of how to make toast with honey. First they had to wash their hands and Mrs Akamatis placed the bread in the toaster. When the toast was ready she spread margarine and children spread the honey on the toast. The children really enjoyed eating the toast with honey (EYLF outcomes 3 & 5).

Ice Block Tickets- If ice blocks are ordered the child will receive a brightly coloured ice block ticket that they can come to the canteen to collect their ice block when they have finished their meal. This will give them a chance to eat any food before holding an ice block.

Every item ordered has a separate label and any child's allergies are printed on each label. We take great care to make all items for children with allergies separately, so you can rest assured we take this very seriously. We do not have nuts in our canteen ingredients.

Attendance News
Attendance Matters
We want to do all we can to be sure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school.
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning .
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day per fortnight, that's 4 weeks of missed learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 1 year of lost learning.
A reminder that planned travel should only be taken during school holidays and students should be at school every day during school term, right from beginning to end.

The preschool program is a one year program for children in the year before they commence formal schooling. Children are only eligible for preschool for one year before they commence school. We are happy to discuss your child with you and offer advice if you are not sure of when they should commence preschool in 2025.
Why is Preschool important?
Preschool helps children develop many vital skills. It particularly assists children to develop important social skills which make a huge difference to their learning in all areas. If children come to school being able to better follow a teacher direction, sit still and concentrate in a group of children and they are ready to start learning the curriculum as soon as they begin school. Our preschool program focuses on these skills as well as many other areas and prepares children for learning in Kindergarten.
