May Newsletter

Dear RHTA Families,

Thank you for an amazing year! I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for everything that you do, from supporting our coaches to volunteering throughout the school. We couldn't provide all of the wonderful learning experiences to our kids without you! I hope that you are looking forward to fun and relaxation this summer. Despite how close we are to the end of the year, learning is going strong! This newsletter is full of important information for you. Thank you for entrusting your child in our hands this year!

Melissa Durkin

Scheduling

Coach Brediger visited grade 4-7 classrooms this week to review scheduling instructions with the learners. The scheduling window will be open through May 15th. Please talk with your learners about selecting their related arts classes for the upcoming school year. Scheduling instructions can be viewed using this link. If you have any questions please reach out to Coach Brediger at kathleenbrediger@nrcs.net.

Accelerated Math Classes

Math acceleration is available starting in fourth grade for students who consistently demonstrate math skill above the typical grade level math class. NRAC and RHTA both use a spreadsheet that analyzes several pieces of data for students who score highly on AIMSWeb. This includes specific subtests, the TerraNova taken in 2nd and 5th, current gifted identifications, the OST scores and other standardized assessments. Once OST scores are received, Coach Detmar will be in touch with the families of learners who meet the criteria for possibly needing acceleration.

Skipping an entire year worth of math instruction leaves many gaps in skills. In order to minimize these gaps, any learner who is being considered for acceleration will be required to complete a mandatory Khan Academy course over the summer which will be monitored by Coach Detmar. Any learner who does not complete this coursework will be placed back into their grade level math class at the beginning of the 25-26 school year.

In accordance with state law, there will be a six week trial period for learners in the accelerated math class. At the end of that window we will make a final determination on whether it is the best fit for each individual. If it is determined that a learner is not academically or emotionally ready for the acceleration, they will return to the typical grade level math course without any penalty. After the 6 weeks, their placement will be finalized and cannot be changed.

Note: Any current 4th-8th graders who are already in an accelerated level math course will continue on their current learning path. No additional summer work or testing is required.

AIMSweb Testing

We have finished our Spring AIMsweb testing window. All learners should have received their Spring Math and Reading AIMsweb results. Please reach out to your learner's teacher if you have not received these reports.

Report Cards

Final report cards for the 24-25 school year will be released in Powerschool on June 4th.

PBIS PBIS

Although we have seen an increase in office referrals in the last couple of months, we are still doing much better than we have in the past several years. Thank you for your input on our PBIS survey. We believe that changing our expectations to "Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe" has really helped learners understand the impact of their actions. Thank you for your continued support!

  • Please check Dojo for ongoing information from coaches. Grades 5-8 are working toward earning an end of the year reward trip. This is a wonderful way to encourage and celebrate Ranger STRONG behavior!
  • Learners should wear the shirts provided by PTO when they are going on Community Immersions. These will also be worn for Field Day. If your learner lost their shirt please contact us and we will provide you information on how to purchase a new one.
  • Please have your learner check lost and found. Any items left at school after May 30th will be donated.
  • I will send an email with updated school supply lists for next year as soon as they are finalized.
  • Now is a great time to review the parent student handbook for the code of conduct and dress code expectations. Any help with ensuring that learners wear school appropriate clothes is appreciated. I don't like spending the last month of the year being the dress code police. Thank you for your help!

Thank you for your continued support! Thank you for your continued support!
