ACADEMY ADVENTURES MIDTOWN
BUILDING ON STRENGTHS & FILLING BUCKETS!
2024-2025 School Year!
😀A Note From Mrs. Angela😀
A New Year...A New Start!
Welcome to Academy Adventures Midtown! We are thrilled to have your child(ren) enrolled in our program. It is going to be an exciting year. The staff worked hard this summer preparing for the school year to ensure that we provide your children with a safe, fun, engaging academic program that will build on their individual strengths allowing them to become confident, excited learners!
First and foremost, we would like to welcome Miss Denise to our staff! She is our lead teacher and comes to Academy Adventures with over 23 years of elementary teaching experience. She is replacing Ms. Emily (who has chosen to be a stay at home mom) and Mrs. Gilbert who is pursuing other exciting opportunities. We are very lucky to have Miss Denise on our team. She brings a lot of knowledge, joy and enthusiasm for teaching and children. If you have not had the opportunity to meet her, please stop in and say hello!
This year we will be more involved in our community and providing parents, guardians and family members many ways to be involved at the school. We will have monthly family events. Academy Adventures Midtown will be partnering with a local retirement community, The Cascades of Tucson. Students will be pen pals with residents; go to the retirement community to do activities; read and entertain the residents. We are very excited for this opportunity. It will be an amazing way for our students to put their bucket-filling and SEL skills to work and bring joy to others. We are always open to other ideas, so if you have any thoughts, please feel free to let Mrs. Angela or Miss Denise know!
Class Dojo will continue to be our #1 form of communication. Please make sure that you have signed up and have alerts turned on. If you have questions or need help, please let us know. We are only using the FREE version, so you are not required to pay! We are aware that many parents are unable to see Miss Denise on Class Dojo and we are working on fixing that.
This year we contracted with a new catering company. Nutrition One (N1) will be catering our breakfast and lunch meals. We are very excited about this change. They have a great menu with more variety and so far the students are loving the food! We have a lot less waste. All students eat free. Unfortunately, they cannot accommodate Vegan meals but they will accommodate no pork products for our families who cannot have pork.
Thank you for choosing Academy Adventures Midtown to educate your child(ren). We are honored to have this opportunity. Our door is always open. Please feel free to come by and observe anytime and/or speak with me about ideas and or concerns. I can be reached through Class Dojo or in person. If you have concerns about curriculum or your child's behavior, please contact Miss Denise.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
Academy Adventures Midtown is currently accepting enrollment in all grades, K-5. We would like to increase out enrollment by 5-10 students. This will enable us to hire more staff and cut the class sizes down even more!
The best way to increase enrollment is by referrals from our families. We have attended a few local resources fairs, Ms. Rubi has gone out to local businesses and left information which has brought in a few students. We have found that referrals from families is the BEST way to get new enrollments! Here are a few ways you can help us increase our enrollment.
- Share information about the school with friends and family who have children in grades K-5
- Share our newsletter
- Share our Facebook Page Posts on your page
- Help pass out flyers
- Write a positive review on Google
- Share our website with friends and family
We want to continue to keep the school small but want the enrollment to get up to 40-50 students to ensure we get the funding needed to provide the best possible opportunities in learning to your children!
We are offering enrollment referral incentives!! If you refer a family, please make sure they let us know that you referred them!
We appreciate your support. If you have any questions, please contact the school for more information.
Dear Families,
I hope this message finds you well! As we embark on a new school year, I want to express my gratitude for your support and partnership in your child’s education. With 23 years of experience in elementary education, I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year.
As a proud parent of two adult sons and a grandparent to three wonderful grandchildren, I cherish spending time with my family and our two dogs on weekends. This personal experience enriches my teaching philosophy, as I understand the importance of a supportive home environment.
I am thrilled to see our students settling into their routines and adapting to classroom expectations. Their enthusiasm for learning is truly inspiring! Starting next week, I will send home a weekly homework packet every Monday, which will be due by Friday. This practice is designed to reinforce the skills we are developing in class. Additionally, completed work from the previous week will also be sent home on Mondays.
I wanted to take a moment to share my educational philosophy, which emphasizes the importance of fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. I believe that every student has unique strengths and potentials, and it is our mission to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
I encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students, ensuring they feel valued and motivated to learn. Your partnership in this journey is invaluable, and together we can cultivate a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
I look forward to a fantastic year ahead, filled with growth and learning. Thank you for being an essential part of our classroom community and your commitment to your child's education!
As our enrollment continues to increase, we are changing the classroom set up. The K-1 will be moved to another room. This will allow them to practice and learn the skills they need without the distraction of the older students. This will allow the older students to be more focused on their work.
Mr. Jack and Miss Denise will be teaming up so that both groups of students get more direct instruction. Ms Lia will be working with small groups that need additional support.
We are really excited about this change. It will be a great opportunity for all the students to get the support they need and continue to build on their strengths which will encourage them to be confident, excited learners!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
JOIN US FOR DINNER AND CURRICULUM NIGHT

Miss Denise will be presenting information on the curriculum; class schedule; and events throughout the school year. We will be sending out an RSVP so that we can ensure we have plenty of food for everyone! All families members are invited to join us! We hope you can participate in this fun night! You will have an opportunity to provide feedback and ideas for upcoming events.
Watch for more information on Class Dojo. If you have any questions, please contact the school.
📱 SCHOOL COMMUNICATION📱
Academy Adventures Midtown uses Class Dojo as the primary way to communicate with families. It translates into 30+ different languages and is a free app. We will use Class Dojo for direct communication with families, as well as posting upcoming events, pictures, etc. Class Dojo provides two-way communication, allowing parents/guardians to communicate directly with Mrs. Angela and Miss Denise. We are aware of some issues with Miss Denise not showing up. We are working on getting that corrected ASAP! Thank you for your patience. In the meantime, if you have a message for Miss Denise, please do not hesitate to send it to Mrs. Angela and she will make sure that Miss Denise receives it.
Please make sure that you have notifications enabled on your Class Dojo app. We ask that you respect our time and do not send message on weekends or between the hours of 8:00 PM-7:00 AM on Monday-Friday, unless there is an emergency. You can also comment on School Story Posts and Events anytime. We will respond as soon as possible.
We have been alerted that sometimes Class Dojo tries to get you to subscribe for a fee. You DO NOT need the subscription to see the notices, events and/or send us messages. We only require the free version. If you do not have access, please let the school know and we will send you an invitation to join.
If you have any issues with Class Dojo, please contact the school. Please note, you are NOT required to pay for Class Dojo. We only use the free portion. The paid version is optional and not required.
Health and Safety of our students, staff and families is always a priority. We continue to wipe down high touch areas throughout the day; have students wash their hands frequently for 20+ seconds; deep clean nightly; and require students and staff to stay home for 48 hours after being sick without symptoms or the use of medication to mask symptoms. These small routines have helped to keep everyone well and our sick absences have been minimal over the last 4 years!
We no longer take temperatures in the morning. However, if you feel your child may be sick or we see signs of illness we will check temperatures at drop off and/or throughout the day. If a child is exhibiting signs of illness (excessive coughing, congestion, upset stomach, etc.) we will contact parents/guardians to pick the child up. If a child is picked up, they are required to stay home the 48 hours with no symptoms, unless you obtain a note from a doctor saying it is safe for them to return. All this information can be found in the Student Family Handbook you received at registration.
For the safety of the students, we do keep the side gates and front door locked. The side gate is open ONLY if staff is on the patio with students. We have installed some security cameras around the building as well. We have never had any issues with security at the school but we prefer to be proactive!
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the health and safety practices of the school, please do not hesitate to speak with Mrs. Angela.
BUILDING CONFIDENT LEARNERS!
Academy Adventures Midtown is passionate about supporting academic and emotional growth in each child. Cloud9 World provides many skills to help our students deal with every day situations occurring in their lives at school or at home. We have seen an increase in our students confidence and continue to build positive learning behaviors. This is our 3rd year using Cloud9 World. Students enjoy the daily 30 minute lessons. There are resources for parents as well! We will continue to share the monthly strength resources in the newsletter. If you have any questions, please speak with Miss Denise.
In May, students focused on excellence. According to CloudWorld9, excellence is a commitment to being the best at something. Excellence is a result of caring about what you do. People who exhibit excellence rise above mediocrity to make a difference.
During the month of August, students are focusing on the strength, Inclusion. According to Cloud9 World, inclusion is that all people, regardless of their abilities, disabilities, or needs, have the right to be respected and appreciated as valuable members of their communities.
Below are some resources that you can use at home with your child.
LEARNING IS FUN AT ACADEMY ADVENTURES MIDTOWN!
Academy Adventures Midtown believes that learning comes in all forms and all children learn differently and at different speeds. Our goal is to reach each child and help them to build on their strengths. Check out some pictures of students participating in lessons during the school day.
One of the benefits of a small school is that it allows all students in all grades to work together. Learning does not have to be sitting behind a desk working out of a book and/or being lectured by the teacher. Our Miss Denise and Ms Lia strive (and succeed!) to make learning fun and interactive for our students. Allowing the Upper Elementary students to work with the Early Elementary students allows collaboration, teaching, and builds supportive relationships.
We are really excited to start our community service with the residents at The Cascades of Tucson, a locally owned retirement community. On September 6th, National Read a Book Day, our students will be going to the Cascades to read to residents and have residents ready to/with them! It will be an amazing opportunity for our students to put their Bucket-Filling skills to use in the community and brighten the day for the residents! We will be doing several different activities with them throughout the school year. If you would like to join us, please let Mrs. Angela know. We would love for parents to join us! Watch for more information.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be September 12th & 13th, this is also Early Release days. Conference are mandatory. Watch for the sign-up sheet to be going out soon!
September 20th will be our parent event, it will be mid-day. Watch for more details!
