Principal's Note
This Wednesday after school a group of PVES staff trained 15 sixth graders for our new program at recess called Panther Playground Pals. Students in grades 1 and 2 were introduced to these students on Thursday and Friday during lunch. These 6th graders will be out on the playground in orange vests helping 1st and 2nd grade students to follow the guidelines on our playground. They will be playing games with the students, encouraging fair play and involvement. We are excited to add this program to our school in order to help everyone have a fun time at recess!
We are excited to provide many experiences for students to get involved at PVES after the school day is over. So far this year, students can get involved in Best Buddies, Mindfulness Matters, Club Invention and Code Ninjas. Bricks for Kidz will also be offered again this year after the Christmas break. In addition, we have recess groups for Book Club, Tinker Tuesdays, and Coding Club. If you and your child have ideas for opportunities to learn and grow outside the school day, please contact us with your ideas! We would love for every student to connect with opportunities such as some of these.
Welcome to PVES
Early Childhood Returns to PVES
We have been excited this year to welcome back early childhood special education to Prairie View Elementary. Early childhood special education services children ages 3-6 who have developmental delays in the areas of cognition, fine motor, gross motor, sensory processing, and emotional/behavioral needs. Mrs. Jen Ackerman accepted the position as our Early Childhood teacher as she previously taught with this program. Mrs. Ackerman works with students in the kindergarten classroom, the 4K community partner sites, and her EC room.

Counselor's Note - From the Desk of Ms. Crouse
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
As we look to the holiday season, it’s important to take a pause from the flurry of activities, parties, and shopping to be mindful. Mindfulness is the ability to be present and aware of our environment and the purpose of our actions. Practicing mindfulness can help both children and adults focus more easily and reduce stress.
Being aware of our experiences through our senses or our thoughts and emotions is practicing mindfulness. In the schools, we teach students mindfulness as a way to help with focus and emotional regulation. Encouraging students to take the time to notice how their bodies are feeling or what their minds are thinking helps them to be more intentional in their actions. The result? More positive thoughts and behaviors!
Here are some ways to practice mindfulness on a daily basis:
· Mindful Breathing: Practice taking deep belly breaths, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. This helps calm the body and slow down thoughts.
· Mindful Eating: Take small bites of food and chew slowly, paying attention to the textures and flavors of what you are eating.
· Body Scan: Tighten and relax muscles slowly, starting with toes and working up to the face.
· Sensory Challenge: For 30 seconds, listen closely to sounds in the environment, pay attention to smells, tune into feelings, and focus in on what is within eyesight.
· Sound Focus: Using a chime or a timer, focus on the sound it is making until it is no longer audible.
Check for updated information on lessons on the Counseling page, which you can access from your child’s elementary school’s website.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact your child’s counselor!
Specials Report - Music Classes - Mr. Hackbarth
Hello PVES Families,
Our third month of the school year has ended. A huge congratulations to the 4th, 5th,
and 6th graders on their wonderful concert in the PAC. We can’t wait to go back next
year!
Second grade is currently learning about the different instrument families, while third grade is
learning how to be a music conductor. First grade is doing a great job with learning the
different music hand signs. Be on the lookout for information regarding the 1st, 2nd and
3rd grade concert!
Finally, kindergarten is enjoying being on the risers for the first time and rehearsing for
their winter concert.
Thank you for all of your support!
