NMS Update 12.29.2024
Northfield Middle School 24 -25
As we near winter break, for some of our students, families and staff the next few weeks and the upcoming holiday season can be a sad and stressful time. What we as parents and educators can do:
Be aware that this may not be a happy time for some of our students and staff.
Continue to encourage and provide additional time to talk and share feelings.
Continue to do what we can to help make school life successful and reach out if students are not engaging or need additional support. Our student support staff can be reached by phone (507-663-0664) or email.
Grade 8 Physics Force Field Trip
The 8th grade science teachers have scheduled a field trip to a presentation at Northrup Auditorium called Physics Force on Monday, January 13th. All 8th grade students are expected to attend the field trip. Students will depart Northfield Middle School at approximately 11:15 am & return to the Middle School by 2:45pm. Students will be eating lunch at the middle school before they leave for the field trip. Parents/Guardians can sign the permission form & pay for this field trip online via RevTrak (link below). The deadline for permission slips and payment is Wednesday, January 8th. Please contact Dan Riesgraf at driesgraf@northfieldschools.org or Ed Muniak at emuniak@northfieldschools.org with any questions.
Winter Break & MS Office Hours
The middle school office will be closed during our winter break, December 21, 2024 - January 1, 2025. School will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
We wish everyone a relaxing and safe holiday break.

Highlighted Students of the Month
What is PRIDE at NMS? These are a few examples:
Prepared: Students bringing their iPad charged every day and turning in homework on time.
Respect: Keeps school property clean and treats others respectfully.
Integrity: Shows leadership, follows technology basics and makes good choices when adults are not watching.
Dependability: Completing work on time and doing what you said you will do.
Excellence: Enters class ready to work, encourages others and shows the best version of themselves each day.
Northfield Middle School staff have selected five students for Quarter 1.
Ravi Petzschmann
Ravi is an outstanding 6th grade student! He is a curious and passionate learner and a dynamic student leader. He actively engages in all classroom activities and often offers helpful insights to classroom discussions. Ravi is a hard worker, he is kind to others and he always comes to class with a friendly smile and a positive attitude. Every day he shows his Raider PRIDE by being prepared and respectful, by exhibiting personal integrity and dependability, and working toward excellence in everything he does. We are lucky to have Ravi at Northfield Middle School!
Ella Boland
Ella Boland is a dedicated student at NMS! Her friendly, cheery, and kind demeanor, along with her strong work ethic, make her a positive presence in the classroom. The fact that she takes the initiative to make up work after being absent shows responsibility and a commitment to her education. Additionally, her willingness to ask questions and participate in class indicates her engagement and desire to learn. Overall, Ella is a role model who shows her PRIDE every day!
Adaly Marcial Romero
Adaly is one of our new-to-country ML students this year. She is kind, respectful and quick to help her other new to country peers if they don't understand a task. At the start of each class, she is prepared and ready to learn and has already made huge progress on her English language skills. We are so lucky to have Adaly at NMS this year, keep up the good work!
Levi Elander
Levi is kind and respectful. He is very conscientious about his work - independently checking Schoology and Skyward, using his planner system, and asking for help if he's not understanding something. He enthusiastically shares things from his home life, and has a great sense of humor!
Bella (Elliana) Peltier
Bella is honest, kind and fun! She comes to class prepared and advocates for herself when needed. Bella participates in class and can often be found reading a book. Bella is very responsible and compassionate towards others.
Winter activities: Fitness Center, Wrestling, Ski/Snowboard Club, Speech, Knowledge Bowl, Math Olympiad.
Northfield Middle School staff want each of you to enjoy family and friends. Get some rest and rejuvenate for the new year. Happy Holidays!
Tutoring Hotline
Tutoring Hotline is a volunteer program that matches Carleton volunteers with Rice County students of all ages in need of free, one-on-one academic assistance in any subject. Our program supports students who already have a set curriculum; our tutors are not equipped to assign new content. Approved tutors sign up for specific tutoring requests depending on their academic interests and availability and will meet with students for about one hour, once a week in a public location or via Zoom. Tutoring sessions are individualized to the student’s needs and may include review of concepts learned in school, preparation for upcoming tests, help with homework, etc.
