District Illness Guidelines
Dear OASD Families,
As we head into cold and flu season, general illness and COVID-19 continue to be reported as widespread across the United States. While we know that illnesses are common beginning this time of year and into the winter months, I am reaching out to remind everyone of our health practices at school and our illness guidelines to keep our students, staff, and schools as healthy as possible.
Health Practices at School:
Our schools will continue to be cleaned and sanitized daily and nightly, with high-touch surfaces receiving additional cleaning throughout the day.
Staff will continue to encourage good hand hygiene routines throughout the day.
Students who are feeling unwell will be taken to the Health Room for evaluation and parents will be contacted when a child needs to be sent home.
Illness Guidelines and Other Reminders:
We strongly encourage you to monitor your child’s health continually. It is important to be mindful of any illness symptoms that your child may have BEFORE sending them to school.
Please keep your child home for school if they are ill.
If your child is staying home due to illness, please contact our attendance line to report the absence and illness symptoms.
If your child experiences fever, vomiting, or diarrhea as their only symptoms, they may return to school 24-hours after the symptom has resolved.
Please see additional Illness Guidelines information here.
While the District will no longer enforce isolation periods for COVID-19 positive cases, we will continue to recommend current CDC guidelines for isolation. Additional CDC recommendations can be found here. Communicable disease cases may be reported to oconhealthservices@oasd.org.
Thank you for your partnership to keep our schools healthy.
Sincerely,
Christy Deal, MSN, RN
OASD Director of Nursing Services

News From Our Library
Daily reading is important for students to strengthen their literacy skills and we seek to provide a variety of reading materials for students to access at school. We also want to ensure that parents have the ability to review their child’s reading choices and provide input on the types of materials they can access.
If you would like to access your child’s district library account to view their check outs, you can do so by logging in as your child through Classlink (our single-sign-on system available through the district website Quick Links). Once logged into Classlink, users have access to a listing of all of the books available to check out through our school libraries by clicking on Destiny Discover (physical books) or Sora (electronic books and audiobooks). Students can provide parents/guardians with their login information for Classlink.
Access to digital and print library books is determined by grade level (K-5 Juvenile/Elementary, 6-8 Young Adult/Middle School, 9-12 Adult/High School). If you would like to request restricted or extended access for your child(ren) that differs from this list, please complete this online form.
Questions about this information can be directed to library@oasd.org.
All other inquiries should continue to be directed to your school libraries.
PBIS Monthly Update
Character Strong FamilyStrong site link: FamilyStrong
5th grade monthly newsletter (for September's focus): 5th Grade Family Connection: Respect (also attached at bottom if that's easier than a link)
Our PBIS focus this month has been on establishing, reinforcing and acknowledging positive behavior expectations. We have connected this to our PurposeFull People (5th) lessons which have focused on kindness and respect, and our Character Strong (6-8) lessons, which have focused on building a foundation of belonging and community. Staff have been working hard to emphasize the importance of character education to our students as a valuable part of their learning and development.
It has been exciting to walk through classrooms in the morning and see all of the connections that are being made. Research has shown that a positive classroom climate is a critical factor for promoting learning and student success. A positive classroom climate is one that is safe, respectful, welcoming, and supportive. In these environments, students feel more connected to school and are better able to focus on learning. At Nature Hill, we believe that teaching good character through Character Strong and positive behaviors through our PBIS lessons will create a school environment where all students feel safe, respected and welcomed.
Questions about our work with Character Strong or PBIS? Reach out to Lydia Sobol, Dean of Students at soboll@oasd.org

Dig Citizenship Survey
Great news! We're partnering with Common Sense Media and the University of New Hampshire to evaluate the Digital Citizenship curriculum, which helps to educate students to be safe and responsible online.
Grades 6-8 will take two short surveys (20 min each) this fall and winter. They'll be anonymous and help us improve our district's program, which covers topics like chromebook care and online safety.
Learn more about the study in the attached letter. Families who wish to opt-out will need to notify us by September 23rd. Questions can be directed to Michele Koper koperm@oasd.org.
NHI Attendance
To report an absence or to arrange same day pick up for an appointment:
- Call 262-569-4942.
- Use the online absence request system in family access. Click the "Absence Request" link on the upper right hand side of the attendance tab.
- Send an email to: NHIAttendance@oasd.org
Do not call the main office number with attendance information. The attendance line is monitored continuously and is set up specifically to receive attendance calls.

We are thrilled to introduce new annual sports passes for families, individuals, and 4K-8th grade students! These passes provide unlimited access to all OHS home games, for all sports, for the 2024-2025 school year. With an annual pass, you can support our Raccoons while enjoying the convenience of not having to purchase individual tickets for each event. https://www.oasd.k12.wi.us/schools/athletics/tickets/ Please note that elementary and intermediate age children must be supervised by an adult, parent, or guardian at all OHS athletic events and must have an electronic ticket in order to enter events. Your support and supervision ensures a positive atmosphere and that everyone has a great time.
Lost and Found
Any item found out of place at NHI can be located in our lost and found. This collection sits in our cafeteria, where students can look through it any time they'd like. We donate items left behind three or four times a year. Parents will be warned two weeks before a planned donation date with a notice here in the Wolf Pack Press.
Work Permit Process
Parents of students 16 and younger seeking a work permit, will now log on to the Department of Workforce Developments page and use their permit application tool. Here is the link: Work Permit.
This new system will allow you to apply for a permit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer, tablet or smartphone. You will make your payment through the system as well. The department will mail a paper copy of the permit directly to your child's employer.
