Clark Weekly News (10/11/24)
Growing Together
A note from your Principal
I hope this newsletter finds you and your loved ones safe from the storm. I know it was quite a week and many we know have been impacted by the tornados prior to Milton's arrival. One of the things I love about being at a small school is our ability to come together as a family when tragedy strikes. In the days to come, you will be seeing opportunities to help our neighbors recover from the storms. We are small, but mighty, when it comes to pulling our resources together to help.
Your Clark team is excited to have our students return Monday and get quarter 2 rolling. We do not yet know what the state will require for make up days, so stay tuned.
In gratitude always,
Dr. Judd

This year’s Senior Portrait Roadshow date is Wednesday, October 30th. Appointments need to be scheduled at store.cady.com if you are planning to have your senior portrait taken on this date at Clark. agribble@irsc.edu with questions
This Wednesday is Unity Day. You can support the event by participating in the simple call to action—wear and share the color orange. For too long, the response to bullying has been silence and those who were bullied felt that no one cared. The simple act of wearing orange shows that youth experiencing bullying are not alone. The goal of wearing and sharing orange is to empower those who are bullied, and everyone around them, to speak up and reach out with kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

Hispanic Heritage Month Announcements
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 through October 15. We will be sharing fun facts each day.
(9/30) Did you know that Senator Marco Rubio has made his mark in politics as a leading member of the Republican party. A Miami native, Rubio was born in 1971 to Cuban immigrants who fled the Batista regime in 1956, two years before Fidel Castro took over through the Cuban Revolution. His career in politics started when he won a run-off election in the fight for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives. He rose through the ranks and became House Speaker in 2005, the first Cuban American to do so.
(10/1) Did you know that a Bronx native of Puerto Rican descent, Sonia Sotomayor became the first Hispanic American to serve as a member of the Supreme Court. She graduated valedictorian from her high school and earned a full scholarship to Princeton University.
(10/2) Did you know that Florida’s Hispanic history can be traced back to the founding of St. Augustine in 1565, making it the oldest continuously occupied settlement of European origin in the United States. The Spanish colony’s influence is still seen today in the city’s grand plaza.
(10/3) Did you know that Florida is home to the fourth largest Latino percent of population in the country at almost 26%. Florida has three counties — Miami-Dade, Osceola and Hendry — where Hispanics make up more than half of all residents.
(10/4) Did you know that Carlos Santana was the first Hispanic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 1998.
(10/07) Did you know that after graduating from the Naval Academy and having a distinguished career of service including serving during World War II, Horacio Rivero, Jr became the first Puerto Rican/American to earn the rank of four star admiral in the Navy.

Weekly Tidbits- 9/2-9/6
Today is Make a Difference Monday and it also happens to be World Day for Bullying Prevention. If you or someone you know is being bullied, there are things you can do to keep yourself and others safe from bullying. Most importantly distance yourself, or help another distance themself, from those that are being unkind or bullying and report it to a trusted adult immediately. Please remember we do not tolerate bullying at Clark.
Today is Take Care Tuesday- What can you do to manage the stress and anxiety of the storm? A great technique is to focus on what you do have control of during stressful times. This includes being able to get lost in a distracting activity like reading or art, talking to loved ones, playing with a pet, writing nice notes or journaling...
Today is Way to Go Wednesday- Today we want to thank our first responders as well as utilities workers who are risking their safety and time away from their families to respond to Hurricane Milton.
Today is Think about it Thursday.Today is World Mental Health Day, a time to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. Mental health struggles impact not only students’ academic success but also their health and happiness. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
Today is Fun Fact Friday- Did you know apples are part of the rose family?

All things safety and behavioral expectations
Attention students- we know you love to smell nice and Bath and Body works is full of fun scents, however, we have students and staff members with asthma and other allergies that make it difficult to breathe when these are sprayed or worn heavily. Please be considerate and use a minimal amount and never spray in classrooms, hallways, or restrooms.
Full handbook and code of conduct:
Safety reminder- p. 14 of our handbook states, "Headphones/ear buds must be used by any student playing audio within the common areas. For safety reasons, only 1 earbud may be used." We have given several warnings, but ongoing defiance with this will lead to referrals and consequences, including confiscation.
Student ID cards- Cards will be active from 7:00 am- 3:00 pm when school is in session. It is imperative that you have your ID on you at all times as this is a key to the building, used for textbooks check out, scanning into FOCUS if tardy, and more. Please remember that you may not open doors for anyone without an ID card, even if they are a good friend. Those without ID cards must come through the front doors and complete the online form at the front desk indicating you forgot or lost your ID. New IDs are $10 each. If you know you lost your ID please report to Mrs. Farias with $10 and have a new one printed.
Students SHOULD NEVER take photos of or video of ANY students or staff without their explicit permission. Beyond being a violation of our code of conduct, it could potentially also be a criminal offense. Having your cellphone on campus is a privilege. If you use it inappropriately (taking unauthorized photos, posting unauthorized photos or video to social media) on campus you may be required to turn it in and pick it up at the end of each day.
